Yes, this is becoming a problem. What's even more alarming is that the new generation of magenta children didn't even get a good baseline experience before going to automated airplanes. My guess is their flying skills suck even worse than the old guys who can at least call upon extensive previous experience in non-automated airplanes. I think we're going to see more and more Air France and Colgan debacles in the future.

When was the last time YOU flew a hand-flown descent, approach and landing in hard IFR and turbulence?

And meanwhile the companies and a feckless FAA carp about flying skills while strongly encouraging and even mandating, in some circumstances, the use of the autopilot.
