Here is the latest Action Alert from the Airline Pilots' Security Alliance. For those of you who would like to make your opinion count but are intimidated about calling your elected officials, it’s very painless and once you’ve done it you’ll probably wonder why you hadn’t done it sooner. Typically there is someone manning the phone whose job is to check off a box which matches your opinion. Rarely do they even ask your name. Sometimes you can just leave a recorded message. Either way, it only takes a few seconds of time and the cost of the phone call.

From the comments I’ve viewed, this board seems to be very split on this issue, unlike most other pilot groups and the public in general. This information is not intended to revive the debate. It is intended to provide those who feel strongly about it, pro or con, an avenue for making their thoughts heard in a timely and effective manner.

ACTION ALERT
Immediate Action Required!

PASS THIS ALERT ALONG TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

As you know, both the House and the Senate have voted strongly in favor of arming pilots. However, Congress is getting ready to go home and campaign for re-election and we still don’t have a bill for the President to sign into law. ONCE AGAIN, WE NEED OUR LOYAL APSA SUPPORTERS TO GET THE BALL ROLLING.

• The Senate will soon pass an Aviation Security bill – possibly as early as Monday evening - that will authorize arming pilots.

• Congressman Don Young of Alaska has been a strong supporter of arming pilots, but he thinks that there is not enough time for the House to act on the Aviation Security bill before Congress recesses. We disagree.

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP:

• CALL CONGRESSMAN DON YOUNG at: 202/225-5765

• THANK HIM for his support for arming airline pilots.

• ASK HIM to ACT NOW on the Senate Aviation Security bill BEFORE THE CONGRESS RECESSES! Tell him that this is a perfect vehicle to GET ARMED PILOT LEGISLATION ON PRESIDENT BUSH’S DESK!

EACH CALL MAKES A DIFFERENCE.

Congressman Young is a friend of arming pilots and he will listen to friendly voices making this reasonable request.

LIGHT UP HIS PHONE LINES!

Thank you for staying in this fight with us!
