The nice thing is the Garmin 430/400 (probably the 530 also, but never used it) will let you know it can't be used to shoot an approach. It will pop up after loading an approach its not certified to do and say:
"NOT APPORVED FOR GPS: GPS Guidance is for monitoring only."
It shows up anytime you activate an ILS approach, as you can't use ONLY the GPS to fly an ILS.
