Just wondering if anyone out there could give feedback about the $169.00 ANR retrofit kits for DC. Good quality? D.I.Y.? Comparisons w/other headsets? Thanks!

I just spent the day tooling around in a beautifully done up Bonanza (brand new panel--sweet). It had the DC retrofit ANRs in it (the owners), so here's what I saw:

They really were quiet. They were heavier than my DC headset (dunno what model--I've had them a while)--but they were very quiet and felt like every other pair of David Clarks I've worn. So, there's what I know about them from my limited experience.

Dan

Although, for the record, I'm not about to go out and drop the cash to retrofit mine--I'll just buy a full ANR headset

I Did the retrofit

I have had my DC's for 14 years now and decided to do the retrofit. I can tell you it was the best thing I ever did they are great and well worth the money. The sound quality is awesome and the DB reduction in some cases is better then the new ANR's on the market.

I would say that if you have an old pair of DC's do the retrofit...it makes more sense then spending 500 bucks on a new pair when the retrofit does that exact thing for 169 bucks.

Takes about 1 hour to do the work if you can solder yourself. Anyway, this is just my opinion so take it as that......but I'd bet you'd wouldn't regret it!

p.s BTW, I paid the extra $40 for the nice cord so I didn't have to have to drill a hole in my case and have an extra wire hanging out of it.

If you get the conversion get the factory to do it if you're not an expert at wiring. It's only $50 and you get a 3-year warranty which alone would cost you $30. I agree with the previous post about the cable, also they have the box with an auto shutoff for an extra $10, get it. I have only had the conversion for 2 weeks and I accidentally leave it on half the time already, you'll be sorry if you don't get that option.

I agree

Yes, I agree with the last post...if you not good at wiring have the factory do it or someone that can do it for you.

And I forgot about that auto shut-off box.....I left mine on so many times that I finally called and got the new box!

I would like to know what retro kit you guys are talking about? I have a set of H20-10's and would like to get the kit. I e-mailed DC and was told that they didn't have a retro kit to turn my headset into ANR. Any info would be appreciated. Where did you guys get the kit.

I have a pair of DC's from 1990. I did the retro from Oregon Aero to upgrade the passive noise resistance capabilities. Took about 20 minutes to install.

Flying a C-182 jump plane I can really tell a difference with the upgrade. I was able to turn the radio volume down on the first flight. I also did the mic upgrade and communications with ATC seem to be clearer.

You might check it out as a cheap alternative to ANR.

Hi!

Someone here who know's the website or phone # please give it up!

DC does NOT do ANR in their old headsets. There are 1 or more cos. who do this. If you search, you can probably find them on the net. I found them, but don't have the info on this computer.

When I get the $, I will convert my DC's to it also.
