Yea, that's right. That's exactly what they are doing. Trying to drum up "publicity".

The facts are, even though you don't seem interested in that, is that they have really and truly, no lie, hired over 200 pilots in 2004 alone. They in fact put these pilots to work, and it wasn't a publicity stunt.

Interviewed in October and will start ground school in November. Following is a trip report that I submitted after I interviewed:

Interview panel consisted of Captain (Check Airman), Captain (retired now in training department) and (HR). Class dates scheduled for the rest of 2004 are 11 November and 2 & 20 December… Interviews conducted on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Hiring between 240-250 for next year. Greta Charles will call from the Orlando office to offer the interview date. Booked on AIRTRAN into Atlanta with confirmation of seat. Application gets mailed to you (hopefully before you leave for the interview)… if it does not arrive on time; they (AIRINC) had some at the hotel (Howard Johnson Express: <$43.00 total for the night) to fill out. Need ten-year work history, ten-year residential history, criminal history (anything that you ever got finger printed for…disclosure is mandatory) and flight time history. Did not collect logbooks, but bring them. Make sure you have a current resume. Hotel van will pick up and drop off at the airport and at AIRINC (where the interview is conducted.)

Classes are 6-8 weeks in length and you are paid $42.75 at 70-hour guarantee followed by 25 hour IOE. No new crew bases, everyone is at Atlanta… at least for the next two years. Six-month reserves with 2- hour call out. Currently have 78 Boeing 717 (CAT III with auto land) with options for more (all of them are less than 4 years old.) 50/50 for the 737’s. Currently a 3-3.5 year to upgrade. Union representation is National Pilots Association and the relationship with management is good. (Voluntarily took a pay cut to avoid furloughs after 9-11, which management followed.) All were back up to previous pay scale within a couple of months. No promises for aircraft other than the fact that you will fly a Boeing product.

Very professional, yet easy-going process. You will have to remind yourself, not to relax too much. No simulator. Questions are as follows:

Why AIRTRAN? What will you bring to AIRTRAN? TMAAT that you made a decision that impacted the flight? Any violations? Any accidents? Tell me about yourself (condensed version)? What do you like least/most about your job? What do you like least/most about your supervisor? TMAAT that you went above and beyond for passenger?
Hope this helps

Not only are they hiring but we are running full New hire classes every 2-3 weeks. (Average of 10-15 every class).

Alright dooshbahg Simmer down now . I was just curious about whats going on.......no need to get your tampons in a twist......But thanks for your informative answer now I know and am truly sorry for offending you.

I didn't know a soul at AirTran. They say there's basically two ways to get the call: either have someone walk a resume in or hand a resume to a recruiter at a job convention (which is what I did).

Did they really tell you 6 months on reserve? The interviewers must have wanted to be conservative in their estimates. I'm a June hire 737 FO and built a line post IOE, lineholder first time eligible to bid. My 717 classmates are all on the line too I believe.

I'd say 6 months reserve was worst case.

Good luck. I need more guys below me!!!

Also I interviewed in mid-October, was notified last Thursday that I got a class date on December 2.
Waitiing on the acceptance package to be sent to me. Any new hires got there package before your traning date or you just show up and figure things out yourself.

Congrats!

Congrats to all who were hired. Waiting is also EXTREMELY hard, so I hope you all hear good news soon.

One key to a happy future here is to hit the ground running in training...

A friend of mine lived by the following: "get behind early, so you have more time to catch up"
...I'm thinking our training department will not be into that at all...My class was VERY cohesive, and I think studying together helped us ALL do well.

The pilots here are great to fly with, and I think you'll enjoy it here alot!

Starting Class Dec 2

I just got the good news from Greta last night. I interviewed on Oct, 27 and I got the call Nov 5. I am very excitied about the news. See you all in ATL.

Actually I was curious if anyone got anything in writing from Greta after getting the call. I was very excited to get the call, but it is nice to get something in writing on when and where to show up etc.

I'll see you guys on December 2.

Like the airtran pilots that have posted, you will love it here. Five years ago I came and some of my friends were like why the *&#$% are you going to who? Airtran? (majors were still hiring) I have tried to help some of those same friends try to get on.

Classes can be a combo 717,737 depending on what is needed. For those that want to come, keep trying. Mentioned in a earlier post we will continue hiring hopefully for quite sometime. Like catfish posted 6 months on reserve probably is a worse case senerio. And possibly 3 to 3.5 years to upgrade may be coming down a hair to.

I do not want to hijack the thread but now my ad. For those who are coming to Airtran and need a place to stay I have many cpads and there are a few openings (Catfish knows). If interested give me a PM and I will fill you in on the details.

is going to a job fair or having someone walk your resume still the only way to get your stuff in? i have heard the e-mail link on the website is pretty much bogus. do they have a fax number?

When did they do away with the SIM ride??

Good catch Crusty!

Let's see June minus November equals, uh, carry the one.......yeah, that's right! I'm waaaaay senior to him!

Busted!!!!!!

At least now we're safe in the knowledge that you're just a disgruntled wannabe, and not responsible for flying any of our airplanes around. Now you can just go away.

Couldn't find enough qualified applicants. They don't want to know how they fly. Another reason not to ride on Airtran.

Which one of you guys was it, that on a previous post kept claiming I wasn't on the property. I believe I had to give you the first digit of the freaking bag room door? Why do you all react this way? "Goodness!, airtran is such an exclusive boys club!" Oh he's not even here, huh huh huh everyone else loves it. OK so catfishy you are senior to me then, congratulations, you are a glutton for punishment.

Actually how you fly, well not you but how others who are successful in the screening procces fly is evaluated pretty thoroughly over the course of some 8 or 9 sim periods.

I guess that excludes you.
