Just out of curiosity, how does one get licensed to sell aircraft insurance? Is it a pretty easy thing to do? I'm asking because there is a job opening that looks appealing...

this would be in Utah BTW...

Thanx.

MarineGrunt,

I cannot answer your question(s) directly however I am sure that Mr. Steven Van Neeley of Aviation Insurance Managers (AIM) can answer any and all questions that you may have and get you going into the right direction should you choose to do this. He started this company more than ten years ago and he is highly regarded and repspected in this part of the industry and I have had nothing less than great experiences with him. He has over 10,000 hours of flight time and his knowledge is unreal in the insurance aspect of this industry. I have heard him speak at a few engagements and I have always been impressed by his success, knowledge, experience, track record, accomplishments, etc. If I was "exploring" the possibility of tapping into this business he surely would be the first and last person that I would contact.

He is extremely successful in doing what he does and he has written more policies than anyone that I have ever met in this business. I am sure he would be more than willing to extend a helping hand to you and take as much time with you as you have questions.

Give him a call @ 1-800-827-4554, tell him a former captain he knows who never flew a MU-2 told you to give him a call..:D He should know who it is. PM me for specifics if you need.

good luck,

ps>> he has an interesting take on the NYY great Munson crash that happened at CAK. Ask him ..

Hey Grunt,

I'm probably replying to late, but I was just browsing anyway. I currently work for an Aviation Insurance Agency and It's a great job. But, I'm leaving it in a week for a regional airline job. But I'll go ahead and put in my 2 cents.

In order to sell aviation insurance you have to get your property and casualty liscense for the state you reside in. The company 350Driver was talking about is an actual underwriting company and they are not the ones that "sell" the insurance, they provide the insurance and decide whether or not to write the risk that you would bring to them. I might have read your post wrong, but I think you want to be what the industry calls a broker, which is what i currently do. unlike car insurance, a person cannot just go to any insurance company and get a quote for an aircraft that they want to buy. They have to go through a broker. That is where you would come in. You would be the broker and try to market his/her account to the 8 aviation insurance companies that are out there right now and get him the best policy for the best value. You would then advise the person "insured" who wants to get the aircraft insured what the quotes are and they would decide which company to go with. There is a lot more that goes into it besides what I have here, but overall it's an easy job and enjoyable. You just have to be motivated and be able to sell.

If I didn't want to fly since the time I was able to hold my head up on my own, I would stay at my job. But it's all I've wanted to do and I have to chase that dream.

If you have any more questions PM me and I'll answer them the best I can. I leave for training June 7th though, so I'll try to reply to them when I can.

prahler:)
