I don't think Virgin America should get it's certificate...but hey thats just my opinion

Ahh why? What do you have against them?

The fact that they are a UK company looking to start in the US. There is way to much involvement from the Virgin Group (or at least thats what it looks like will happen). If you look at the other Virgin Carriers the Virgin group maintains passive if not direct control over those carriers.

My application is not only in, it has been for over 1 1/2 yr. With the pressure on the DOT from some majors (not out of "ownership" concern, but fear of competition) who knows if it will get off the ground. But, I for one hope it does and soon. Slam me all you want, it's not like I know you. Truth is, I bet half the people on here who claim to hate this airline has their application in as well. My airline is close to death, thanks to the fatal disease DL gave to us (General - don't even start), so tell me what my options are. Alaska and Frontier needs a SB (got one for me?), Cont. needs referrals, SWA needs a type rating, JB and Airtran are both still not very stable. RB has a great vision for our future and I for one want to be a part of it. First stop VA, next stop VG

Cut to the quick - what does it pay? Does anyone know? How can you apply for a job when you don't even know what it pays?? That's lunacy.

Amen. It's like going to the car-dealership and handing over a blank check to the salesman. "Just fill in the amount. Whatever you think it's worth!"

Sending anything other than a "feeler" resume to this company right now is simply shiny-jet-syndrome run awry.

"Oh boy! They're gonna get A320s! Jet's R Neat! I don't care WHAT they pay! I don't care WHAT the work-rules are! I just want to fly an Airbus!"

Pure foolishness.

A freind of mine was talking with the supposed chief pilot of VA. Apparently they will only be hiring guys with a SH** Load of Air Bus time for a long while. Primarily because they have no experience on property.

Applying for a job without knowing pay, lunacy????????

It's a good thing your in this industry and not working in the corporate world. The only place your application would be is at Walmart or flipping burgers. Look through classifieds sometime or even a corporate website and show me where they post salaries. Salary information is normally discussed at an interview. That's why we have them, to see if both parties are intertesed.

Lunacy to keep your options open - I don't think so. But then again, that's just one less application that I have to compete with.

There is a difference. Corporations hire individuals and negotiate a salary during the recruitment/interview process.

Blue collar workers like airline pilots have no such ability.

I didn't realise that if you send in your resume and get hired you have to take the job. I would have thought that you could decline the position if you thought the pay was not acceptable.

Of course you're right. Take it a step further. Let's say they call for an interview. Would you really want to pay the expenses and take the time to do it without knowing? At what point in the process do you say "Time out, hoss. What's the pay?" Before or after they probe you?

I think they're being secretive so that they'll stockpile a huge list of resumes, which wouldn't otherwise be there if the pay was made public.

I truly hope Virgin America takes off!

If anything, the airline industry in the US need 'kick in the pants' and Sir Branson can sure deliver that.

Ever talked to one of the Virgin pilots (or other Virgin emiployees). If not, please do so and then start the rant about what would they pay. It's not like that you're making a $100,000 start working for a regional and you don't want to go interview with a company flying A320s because they probably (in your thoughts) would pay less than Colgan.

Go Virgin America!

Say again please. You are coming in broken and stupid. This could be the most poorly written post ever to soil the boards at Flightinfo. Make me a sandwich, then go take an English class.

That took me 15 minutes to read and I still don't understand it.
