i have asked the corporate guys about living in rdu area...i wanted to get the opinion of some of the airline guys/gals living in the area...quality of life, schools, where to look/stay away from...what is service like out of rdu to NYC

thanks a ton

I recently moved away from RDU, but I'll try and answer some of your questions.

Stay away from Durham, nothing good for your family there.

As far as schools, I think that Cary has the best school systems

Raleigh is a great city, lots to do, fun place to live, great place to raise a family

Commute to LGA should be pretty easy, as both Delta and Usairways (and maybe Eagle) go direct.

Hope this helps..

Pilot living in RDU

Living in RDU is not bad. If you are commuting to EWR you should be fine. There are 7-8 flights a day with ExpressJet and if that doesn't work, Air indenpence (old ACA) has a flight almost every hour to Dulles and many flights from Dulles to EWR. You could also use American Eagle/AA. So far communting isn't bad. Just make sure you commute during the week. Weekends seem to fill up.

Cost of living = much cheaper then NY. I used to live 1hr away from EWR just so I could afford rent. People are really nice in RDU.

If ya ain't from here we don't want ya....
