UVSC??

wondering if anyone has the heads up with Utah Valley State College? they offer a BS degree in Aviation, all online, other than the flying.

whats the word??

Yes, I am familiar with this program. I would strongly caution you against it. I have some good friends at various Majors and Nationals that say HR throws it out, don't do it, it looks like you are trying to cut corners. Food for thought.

Yes, I have heard of UVSC....

I am currently finishing up my 4 year with them.

I love it and would recommend it to anyone.
PM me if you want for info.

I am currently enrolled in the program and it is very good. Don't listen to Ash he doesn't have a clue. I am someone who has 2.5 yrs college already before starting to fly, yet did not have the money to do both. I left school to get my training to get a job and now I am going back and getting my degree finished online. For people like myself who did not have anyone else except yours truly to fund flight school and college it is great. Not everybody has parents that can afford to send you to any where you want to go. For someone like myself who went back and stuck with it to get the degree while working full time it looks better than 21 year old who never had a job and whose parents are paying the bill. But, none of this matters because the only thing that really matters is that it IS AN ACREDITED COLLEGE and that is all that matters! To airline recruters all they care about is the 4 yr degree. Whether it is in physics or communications it does not matter, only that it is acredited and it is 4 yr. So do it, they are a great school and have a wonderful aviation program. Good luck!

Tug Driver,

Are you willing to Gamble with it? PM, I can give you the info of Majors who THROW this degree out.

FlyingDude,

Why don't you just get a mail order degree from Sally Struthers seems as though that's all you are interested in. And spelling is not one of them. "Acredited" That'll look real nice on a resume. Hope you don't cut corners in your flying. Be serious about you education and in 2003 with spell check there is no excuse for errors. It's about professionalism and presentation. When you make errors you only make yourself look like an a$$.

thanks for the responses. do the majors frown on all aviation degrees? if i got the BS from ERAU is that still bad? comparing ERAU and UVSC curriculums, they are very similar.

I guess its with any school, am i paying for the name or for the knowledge?

I have my AS in Aviation from a jr college. up to my CFII with 700tt and im trying to figure out my next step. and im carrying 7 students, so its not totally possible for me to go to class everyday. i guess its a trade off. but it would be nice to focus on the students and add the long awaited and much need flight hours.

i know, sad story, everybody does it.

The only thing the Internet is good for is porn and rumors about class dates. Do yourself a favor and get a REAL degree from a REAL college. Trust me, a college degree is more than "just a piece of paper", it does matter where you get your degree from. Employers do notice. I interviewed with a 135 and 121 company this past year (got both jobs) and both companies asked where I went to school and what I studied.

It's going to be years before there's going to be any airline hiring. Multiply your 700 by 4 and then you may have enough total time to make it out of flight instructing. So, time is on your side. Suck it up, Go back to a real school, have some fun and learn something useful. A "virtual" professional pilot degree is worthless. Give yourself some skills to fall back on if you lose your medical or get furloughed.

Do they throw out ERAU's online Aviation degree, too?

Just curious ...

Definitely use this time to get an education that you can use. That way you are prepared for whatever happens in this roller-coaster industry. I have a BS in Biology and a Masters in Laboratory Medicine. It's what allowed me to supplement my Commutair income and survive 3 furloughs. Working in the medical field you can work anywhere in the US. Going back to the medical field after flying meant a 36,000/yr payraise. Something to think about. If you are going to spend the time and money getting a degree get one you can use, like become a teacher or accountant, engineer. With the corporate climate what it is, its not about "fresh ideas" but rather what skills do you have that can help a company increase its profit margin. Arm yourself with a degree, a marketable skill, and with your licenses you will get ahead in aviation primarily because of the fact you were able to weather the storm. Many will not.

So guys what's the diff. in the UVSC program and Embry Riddle, I would like to see you tell all those people that paid 70K that they will just have their degree thrown out. It is apparent that you know nothing about UVSC. They are a normal 4yr. university with a Pro Pilot degree program just like OSU, Baylor or any of the other schools. A good friend of mine went to school at UVSC and did all of his training and flight instructing there. By the way I would like to see that list of majors that throw out a degree from an accredited school because it was recieved only partly on the internet. The degree is nothing but a check mark in a box so long as it is accredited.

Marketing...and as far as it helping me nowadays...I don't even think I could effectively sell rubbers in a whore house.
