Any Reviews From Fellow Frac Pilots Using the QC15 w/UFlyMike,

Saw 1 thread from the Corporate Forum, only 1 review. Wondered if there are any others out there.

thanks in advance

Not me, but on our company boards the consensus is positive. Significantly more noise cancelling and the mike works fine.

works great but pretty fragile.

My headset broke twice and the mic once.

All repaired quickly but still a pain

Traded in my QC2 for the 15. So far they work great. The 15's noise reduction is significantly better than the 2's. Also it seems to me the inside of the ear cup is bigger allowing a better fit.

Didn't know they would do that. SOLD! Have loved my QC-2 and UFM for almost 3 years. Best money I have spent in this biz in years...

I think Bose.com is probably the best option. Don't think anybody is discounting yet

So the U Fly just plugs like it did on the QC2? It looks like that same plug in the pictures.

Best option for outright purchase of QC-15 is www.crutchfield.com, since they don't charge tax or shipping. Bose will charge you tax. Also, ask for a new customer discount code of your own.

Although you can technically do this online, we recommend you call the 800 number below to order. The problem with ordering online is that if you try to use three codes that have been used to their maximum for the month, you get "locked out" of the ordering page.

EACH CODE CAN ONLY BE USED 2X PER MONTH
So keep trying till you find one still good for this month.

Ziggy at Crutchfield Sales: 1-800-388-2911 x3258 If Ziggy is not there, any other salesperson can help you, but they may not be as familiar with the code referrals as Ziggy. If you reach someone that says you can't do this, just hang up, and call back and talk to someone else.

For trades, direct to Bose at a kiosk, store, or through mail.

Thanks Mike. "Sold" another one a couple tours back btw. 7:40 across a very dark Pacific ocean got his thinking up....

I upgraded a couple weeks back and it worked great- definitely a noticable improvement on the QC2, while seeming just as rugged and with the same battery life. Still not as powerful ANR or passive protection as the Bose X, mind you, but it is about half way between the X and the QC2, the latter of which is better than, say, a Telex 850 ANR. I have a X (which I'll keep for occasional piston flying) and a QC and I switched back to the X for jet flying until the upgrade which will finally relegate my X to piston use.

Just talked to bose. No more "swap/ upgrade" program!

I noticed a significant difference when airlining - less so in the cockpit (the X cockpit is pretty quiet to start with). So if you missed the opportunity to upgrade I wouldn't worry too much about it.

When you fly with someone who uses the ship's headsets ... do they ever complain they cannot hear you well?

I don't recall, but its been a long time since I've flown with someone using the ship's headsets. I'll make a point of asking next time.

You mean the swine flu spreaders?

I don't know how people can use those things. I'm not much of a germophobe, but when there's a crust on it... :puke:

I'm amazed at the number of sim parters I have had over the years that would never use a ships h/s yet will be be happy to use them in the sim, where every few hours a new sicko sticks his or her mouth on it. Makes me wish there was such a thing as personal masks too.

About a year ago I got deathly ill (flu) the night after completing recurrent sim trng. It could have been picked up from anywhere, but my guess is that is was from the headset or mask.

Do you guys wear your own headsets in the sim? Might have to do that next time....

Headsets in the sim? Whatever so you mean? That would be like wearing your uniform to sim recurrent.

I agree, but it really depends on the particular POI's attitude .... Some are nazis about headset usage, at least on checkrides.

How well does the QC15/UFlyMike setup work in single-engine GA planes? I hear a lot about how great it works in jets and I was wondering how well that setup would also work in piston planes.

Works well except in noisiest of GA aircraft, e.g., open cockpit, C-185, Maule with big engine. Lots of them in use in C-172, Piper Warrior, Mooneys, Bonanzas, etc.
