I am taking a 2 week trip to maui and one of my goals in life is to get up and fly around over there. Over the beaches, around the island, I think it would be very cool. I need to know if you guys know of any places I could rent? I am shaking at the thought of this oppourtunity that I have! Thanks in advance!

You'll be shaking even more if you dont have good crosswind landings. OGG is always howling. Have fun, fly to Hana for lunch. Screw the drive!

Yeah, that drive is a b**ch. It's one of those been there done that type of things. Once you do it once, it's time to find a faster route. Didn't know there was an a/p up at Hana. Last time I was there was like 6-8 years ago, before I started flying.

is OGG the place right on the beach side, and sometimes the waves crash up onto the runway? If it is I think I have seen pictures of the place. I have heard the crosswinds are pretty sweet there. I've managed max cross comp. winds before, so im excited for a challenge! but I am very excited for this flight, thanks for the info guys!

I dont think thats OGG, OGG is a little ways inland and doesnt run parallel to the beach, maybe your thinking of Lihue. As far as the road to Hana goes, never do that when you are hungover, you will regret it. I think next time I'd fly to Hana.

You sound like your describing PPG... No OGG isnt that close to the beach but the crosswinds are quite stiff and it is close enough they have put in a kiteboard / windsurf free zone at the beach for a hundred or a few yards either side of centerline of RWY 2 departure because the kiteboarders were launching into the single engine climb profiles for jets. I guess the FAA figured it would really suck losing an engine and sucking a kiteboarder into your good engine.
