i need to change the fork <duke-C is too springy> and rear shock to a float-r or something thatll replace the noleen <no rebound adjustment>.

going downhill its neet to see the brake discs turn purple in color and the little stickers on the calipers wrinkle up and melt off....used up a set of pads that day. i prolly was using em too much but i wasnt properly armored like all the other guys....

Up until last summer i had a Trek 8000, traded it to get a bike for touring which leaves me with now a C-dale R800 for my roadie pursuits and Fuji Touring ifor the next time i get the urge to go out for a month again. Really missed the 8000 this year. Due to flight debts, i couldnt afford to get a MTB again. Soon enought ill be able to hit the trails i reckon. Meanwhile ive been riding my girlfriends Giant Rincon when i get the urge to hit the trails. The Trek 8000 was my favourite ride. Ive raced it with no upgrades and it provided a sweet sweet ride in any condition . Could take a hell of a beating with no hassles.

2001 GT-xcr-4000, heavy, but easy on the anus!!

1999 Giant roadbike, which is funny because I'm only 5'6" and it's the smallest road bike I've ever seen!

I road the lift/downhills in Winter Park, Colorado in '99. Holy crap that was FUN!! We rented GT-xcr-4000s and thats when I went and bought one. Thats back when I had money, too.

For the guy looking for Jersey riding:

Try Ringwood State Forest - good riding - some can be hard depending on your experience..you will certainly see some bears too!

Also some trails near Morristown that are pretty fun...cant rememeber the name but they are just outside town to the North. Near patriots Path.

BUT...for the most part Jersey just plain suks. not much more to say....

I may live in Texas, but I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and cut my teeth in the canyons. My first century was on a crappy $100 mountain bike bought using plane washing money.

I don't know where you live, Mr. 200, but c'mon down and I'll take you and that custom Schwinn of yours on any day!

my first century was on an equally beat up Fisher Aquila...in my opinion nothing better than an old STEEL Gary Fisher.

And if you happen to be in the Northeast I will take you on a day trip to the Green Mountains of NH and some top notch ski-slope downhilling...that Big Sur wont last 3 hours!!!

You know, if you'd spend some time learning how to pick a line instead of letting that wussy billion-inches of travel suspension of yours eat up all your mistakes - your bikes might last longer!

first actual mtn. bike....
'84 Bianchi Grizzly. That thing went everywhere and it wouldnt die. perhaps it had half the paint still on it. could no longer update the chromoly beast (head-tube too small for a fork) so i bought the K2.

if i was in the market for a hardtail tho i'd definitly go for a Grizzly again. stiff and tough. throw on a good 3"+ fork and youre in great business.

I dunno why I am posting since I don’t even have a bike…

Last year I went out to Markham Park with a friend of mine on a bike that was not mine. Just to taste the MB thing. I have been a hard core road biker many years ago but never trail or MB. Of course my a$$hole friend must take me straight to a trail that is intermediate/hard according to him. Scared the crap out of me. Not that we have many choices here in FL.

Anyways, we start riding around this lake and I can't see any trail. Then he says "follow me" and goes into the middle of this jungle... out of my view. I say WTF and aim at the point where I saw him last... to my surprise there was a trail… hardly wider than 2 feet and this goes for 80% of the trail. Most places are full of rocks and branches etc... within 5 min I looked like a survivor of Omaha Beach in WWII. Of course next week I was there again. 2nd time was much better. I did not want to screw someone else's bike (btw the guy broke his legs at the same trail that is how I got his ride for 2 sessions lol) and I decided to wait until I get mine. Needless to say the MB bug bit me. I was planning on buying this:

...then I got laid off from my nice office job. I'll be glad if I can steal enough money to finish the CFII hopefully still in this decade. Of course no bike for $2k+ for me, not even one for $200. I love flying more than anything but it is getting freakin’ old to be broke 24/7 due to training, and as I read these posts here I haven’t seen nothing yet.

Anyways there is something about that bike above. I can’t tell what but it is beautiful.
