What type of trips do you guys do at Spirit? Do you do many overnights or is it mainly out and backs? I understand that you get 4 days off in between trips, however, how many days are you on for normally? Do you commuters use crash pads, or can you find cheap hotels to stay in (FLL) when you are there for the night?

As far as trips are concerned, there's a little bit of everything. Usually not more than 4 days in a row, but you can have turns or 2-3 days trips. But you can be on for 5 days with 2 trips.
You are correct, 4 days OFF in between.
Some guys stay in hotels depending on how many nights they need in a month. FLL is not cheap. I think it runs around 80$ for a night. I have seen a bunch of ads for crashpad and they usually run for about 250$/month.
Congratulations !!!

Yeah, there is a little bit of everything in trips; keep in mind that FLL will have more variety, giving the new base makeup. As a commuter, FLL is probably your best bet. The downside: I've heard hotels run $80-100/night, so you're probably better off in a crashpad (I am). Also, public transportation is almost non-existent and cabs are not cheap.

The smaller bases (SJU, LGA, and ACY) are probably going to be all out-and-backs.

How does the 4 off work with daytrips? Are trips done in blocks?

"4 days off after every trip" is a bit inaccurate/confusing. The simplest way to put it is after you're done working for that particular period (25ish flight hours), whether it be a 4 day, or two 2-days, etc, you are guaranteed to have 4 days off, except during the beginning/end of the month, when it is not contractually guaranteed. There are some lines that are all day trips, in which case you'll be doing day trips 4 or 5 days in a row.

Simplest: if you have a day off, you have at least 4 of them except during transitions.

At least until the next contract.

I think the original question was about good overnights. Here's one answer...
MCO used to be good, especially at the hot tub! But I heard that hotel is no longer used?

Yep..the old Orlando hotel was better than the new one. The new one is "nice" but just seems old and there isn't much to do in the area.

The closest attractions are Sea World and International Drive. I have never liked that area of Orlando.

Beware of FAs with the Morning After guilt and no sense of responsiblity ;)
