Anyone with good international phone - call plans!

We travel exstensively to Europe, caribian islands , mexico and Canada

Try Noblecom.com I have used these cards for a while. They are pretty good though not 100% reliable. They are purchased on the web, so that can be handy when your in a bind. The rates are pretty fair and will vary from country to country. Coverage is pretty good and you will get a list of countries that the card will work from. For the most part it will work everywhere excepting North Korea (you were not going there anyway right?) and countries in the Middle East, which are very proprietary about there communications systems.

Typically what most people will do is purchase calling cards in the countries that they frequent. You can get the best deals that way. Just try to find a couple of convience stores or cut rate outfits in the places you travel.

When I went to Zurich back in FEB, I used a calling card from Globalphone corp - www.gphone.com

Nearly a local access number in most parts of Europe, or their version of a toll-free call (you might still need a coin to make the phone work).

Great connections - I recall talking to my wife from the Gare de Lyon rail station in Paris, and the connection was crystal clear.

If I go to Oz (Australia) this coming October, I will definitely use their card again.

Tried the phone card bit, but one of the issues was that many time you had to use a particular phone system. It really came to a head one night when the nearest phone of 7 miles off the airport. After that I got a GSM phone and except of a couple of countries, I have never had a problem. Another solution would be a satellite phone. These are starting to become a great deal small and less expensive. The nice thing about these options is that people can also call me. Maybe that is not such a good thing.

In the UK/London area, the best is the SWIFTCALL phone card availble from most newsagents/convenience stores.

No hidden costs, no maintenance costs and no surcharges. Plus a GBP20 card has 5 GBP free. The card can be used from virtually any kind of phone and for 5p a minute to the USA in a country where gas is $6 a gallon, that's got to be a deal!!

I just dumped sprint and went with T-moble.

Anyone have them and used them internationally? They said we could just pay roaming and minutes and the tri-band phone would work.TC

I use tmobile Intl

great coverage. .99/min in Europe and up to 4.99/min in Russia etc..

be sure you have the service activated before you leave (no charge)

also be sure you have a real tri-band phone (motorola). tmobile sells lots of nokia and samsungs that aren't.

If it is cellular that you are talking about I just switched to AT&T Wireless from Sprint. (Sprint sucked a$$.) I was able to add the entire continent of North America for an extra $10 onto my plan. I don't know how the plan would work in the Carribean but I know for it works in Puerto Rico. I can't complain at all about the service either hooked me up a nice phone and all the goodies for free. (Did have to sign a 2-year contract. But did offer a 30-day trial.) Hope this helps.
