I heard a rumor that our pilot recruiting office was calling poolies with offers to start class for direct entry into right seats in CDG and HKG. As we all know, FI is the prime source of all "true and correct" information, so I thought I would go to the well of knowledge and see if anyone in the pool has been called for class.

If called, make sure you have your sponsor highlight the "benefits" of the "enhanced" LOA.

And then figure out if you can live in HKG on 52,000 per year.

$52,000 a year + a housing allowance of like $2700 or so a month...

2700 if you rent, 1300 if you buy. Either way it's not near enough to cover a pad. It's likely, unless you're a very frugal single, that you'll lose money on that deal.

Is it the same housing allowance for CDG? Any guesses on how the lines will be built? Will some be "commutable" from North America? If one were to be based in CDG would it be possible to commute on company within Europe? Would you still get the housing allowance if you, say, lived in Spain or England?

$2700 would get you a sweet place in Shekou and you can take the ferry right to VHHH.

You have to live within 100 miles of the domicile to get the housing money. Lines are not thought to be easily commutable from the states, not sure about other places in Europe. A very poor package for a newhire to have to swallow for sure.

Let's not forget tax equalization. You pay as much in taxes using their accounting firm as you would in the US. No Expat provisions...no tax-free income....
