I am a low time flight instructor, but I have been blessed with the opportunity to do some SIC work in Falcon 20,s and a G II...The opportunity fell through, but I know there are more out there.. what is the best way to put myself in contact with the right people who can stop giving me the BS about their minimums. I have about 600 hours now, but was doing the SIC work with barely a commercial multi. I live in southern california where there seems like there are a lot of opportunities, but I can't seem to meet the right people. Flight instructing sucks... please give me some advice

I don't mean to be rude, but you are joking right?

I hate to be the bearer of reality, but there are THOUSANDS of pilots out there with 10 times your experience on the streets looking for work.

As far as minimums BS... It ain't BS, it's the real world and it's not someone just trying to get rid of you. It's mainly mandated by the insurance companies... This could be the reason this so-called "opportunity" of yours fell through.

The only thing you are correct about is Flight Instructing stinks or at least the pay does. If you do somehow snag some other kind of deal, be carefull. Good luck!!!

With all due respect...

Six hundred hours total time is a bit too soon to start complaining about how much instructing sucks. It's also a bit soon to start complaining about being given "BS about minimums".

Yes, you were fortunate enough to fly a Falcon and a Gulfstream with very low time, but you can't (and shouldn't) count on that happening again anytime soon. Maybe you will find yourself in a jet again in the near future, but then again you may spend another five hundred, or even thousand hours instructing. But being a (good) CFI is excellent experience that will serve you well in the future.

As for how to make contacts...it will help to keep a positive attitude. Even on here your post may be read by a socal CP looking for a low timer to ride right seat in a jet. The attitude you are projecting may turn that individual away from you though.

One other idea is to target some specific companies in your area with equipment you can realistically expect to fly (King Airs, Citations, etc). You can do this on the FAA website pretty easily. Then ask on here if anyone has contact info for them. There are a lot of folks on here with NBAA directories who are more than happy to share the info.

Good Luck!

I find it hard to believe that this post is real. He would be uninsurable in a DA-20 and G2 with 600 hrs, even as a SIC. Especially in a corp. jet after 911. T-83, I apologize if you prove me wrong......but I am skeptical.

Actually, this stuff happens all the time. They just don't get paid for it.

Think about this tommyknocker.....

YOU think Flight Instructing SUCKS??
How do you think the Captain on that DA20 or GII feels flying with you???.....

I'll bet he REALLY thinks Flight Instructing SUCKS.

Well this thread can now be officially be closed. Nobody can possibly say it any better than the above post by Gulfstream 200.......... Bravo, my hat is off to you sir.............

G200: "YOU think Flight Instructing SUCKS??

Now, that is funny!!

If this post is true, do you think the capt. was paid extra for giving dual?

SCT

Isn't that considered combat pay?
Or is it pay-for-babysitting?

This has to be flamebait, nobody that ignorant would make it through the front door of the operator that "fell through."

However, if it is/was real and he is that motivated to find an opportunity I have some strong advice that has served me well.

Enjoy a nice big cup of GROW THE #$%^ UP!!!!!! Then get some experience and start knocking on doors again.

Don't pay them any attention tommyknock83. It's pretty tough to gain respect in here. You have to analyze what you write before you submit it because everyone will over analyze you. Just watch someone will flame me for writing this. Most of these guys can be pretty harsh on here. Don't take it personally. I for one started flying jets at 600 TT. And yes I did get paid, quite well I might add. I got my first type rating at 800 TT. I'm not bragging, I also feel blessed to have had the opportunity. Just hang in there and network with people in your community. The only bad thing about starting to fly jets at such a low time is that it's hard to build time. I know flight instructing sucks, but just keep flying. It's not beneath me to do it. Sometimes we have to do things that suck to feed ourselves. Just beware of all the PFT scams out there. Hang in there for a good gig. If you're persistent it will eventualy work out.
