This question was asked a few months back, but I heard things are changing. A CA at Spirit said they are continuing to hire every month and DTW (which was a fairly senior base) is beginning to go junior as the hiring progresses. He said it is likely that new hires can and are getting DTW out of training. Just curious if anyone over there can chime in to either confirm or deny this. Thanks.

The problem with DTW is that it is on the chopping block, if and when LAS is opened, so don't hold your breath for DTW.

The very last guy is a new hire in DTW. The one above him is like 2007 or so just by looking at his number.

There is a lot of west coast flying that is being done by FLL and DTW crews right now. Just now I have heard they are telling interviewees that they may go to LAS or ORD. Once those bases open they will have to move a portion of that flying into those bases. Which means some displacements out of both FLL and DTW. Probably mostly out of FLL I am guessing.

If you want to come here to be based in DTW and for no other reason, I would say that is a really bad idea.

Is ACY a junior base? I would assume its pretty small...how does it compare to the other bases?

for what it is worth...

JH said (right from his mouth) that as of now (early August) that the new management team, knowing that DTW is kind of a Spirit hometown, wants to try and keep DTW about the same size so people who live around DTW can stay there for the time being. Also he said if they had their pick of bases to open it would be ORD, for the simple fact that most of our flying (or they are looking for more redeyes) in and out of ORD are redeyes that it makes a slightly better base.

so having said that...look for LAS to open soon.

SEven dust wants to come on over here to NK...!!!! Now I really gotta find out who this guy is. Do you still have the pinnacle hate sticker on your flight case or what?

Looking for more info on this potential ORD base....
We should know soon but rumor has it that ORD will start in December. There will be a handfull that will bid it but I suspect that it will always be a junior base on the botttom end. More people would be willing to bid Vegas but that wont happen for a while.
