How long do new hires sit reserve before they can bid a standard or composite line...assuming that's what they want. Most new hires are going to 757 or 737 MDW. Does the time on reserve in MDW vary between equipment?

I think it's hit and miss. We are under staffed especially on the 737. For Dec I think there was only about 10 or 12 reserve lines for Fos in Mdw on the 737 and maybe around 150 hard lines.
Plus we have senior folks that bid reserve for various reasons. I expect anyone who has been hired or will be hired recently will not sit reserve long at all. Short call reserve(2 hours)=14 days off. Long call(12 hours)=12 days off. We now also have open time bidding for reserve people, I'm not familiar with this and have never used it, however, it sounds like you can build a schedule for yourself to a degree. There is an L1011 class after the first of the year, I think in Jan. That's a whole different animal. You will travel to airports that don't exist.

Thanks for the info! Can you confirm the L1011 class is really going to happpen? I recieved an offer on Nov 14th and I am waiting for a class date..I would love to get the L10 but I thought that wasn't a possibility.

I talked to the IND CP in ATL last week and he said the L-1011 class (IF ONE HAPPENS) would be in the spring.

I would think that there would be a possibilty of a few newhires going to the L1011 next year. We are waiting on a new base bid and there will probably be some movement from L1011 Fo's bidding to the 757 or 737.

sayagain?

you guys seem to be in the know of the L1011. Tell me all that you've heard about class and staffing. with the bid coming up I'd like to bid off the 73 to the L10 (yeah I know), anyway from the looks of the list there should be a few vacancies b/c of upgrades to 73/75. My 1 year seat lock is up early spring, you'd think they fill the vacancy with me before new hires?pm me if need be.

Check the contract. The seat lock is for 18 months after training commencement date (ref 24.H.1). They would probably stick new hires in the L10 class before they would retrain you in another aircraft.

My 18 months are up in January, and I'm probably going to bid the 757 in the next status bid. Gotta get some international experience before I get the fourth stripe (hopefully in early 2005). Need to get some surf during some HNL overnights, too.

I heard...

I heard 4-6 new L-10 FOs in jan/feb. But then, I heard tail 160 was coming back into service too (nope!). And you know what they say: bid what you want because you never know if you might get it.
