I know the rule is normally "if you have to ask, it's probably PFT." But I'm not sure on this one.

I visited a fligth school today. (http://www.flysoutheastern.com/) Nice place, cool sales guy. We discussed IFR and CPL training. That was fine. He then tried to explain the career coarse to me. That's where my question came in. Being a lowely Private right now, I may have misunderstood.

It seems that for $43,950, you are garunteed 1500 hours total time, and 200 multi time. As it turns out, the time come from you instructing there until you reach the numbers, while you are being paid. It didn't sound right.

Yeah. . . 1500TT and 200multi. I should edit the above, but I'll add it here: The program is VA approved. That's what originally threw my first PFT thoughts off.

Do they tell you how many hours you get for the 44K?

My understanding is that the $44K covers the 1500tt/200multi, BUT that was not specifically pointed out to me.

I've seen some other school(s) use this ruse. The $44K pays for your training from zero time to 250 hours and your ratings. Then, apparently, the place hires you to instruct until you get the 1500 total-200 multi.

It really is not P-F-T because you could leave the school after you earn your certificates. P-F-T is an employment issue only. For a scheme to be P-F-T, as a condition of employment you have to remit money to pay for your training. Is this place guaranteeing some off-the-street zero-timer who might never learn how to fly a job? I think not. This school's scheme is perhaps a variation of how Comair "hires" its instructors after they complete its program and "guarantees" them a Comair interview. Sleazy, sly and deceptive? Definitely. P-F-T? No.

Whats more realistic is that you are paying for the flgiht time required to get your IFR, COM, and CFI/CFII/MEI? and then they give you a job instructing until you reach 1500/200?

Just a guess on my part.
