Or was that spring of 2000?

Don Caarty's thinking, "Oh shiite, I need to buy TWA now......"

US(AWA) has to fix the AWA(US) cluster first.

US and AWA, the first merger in history that resulted in two different companies.

To head off the list of mergers that resulted in two different companies that will undoubtedly follow, that was sarcasm.

It's not funny, Parker is serious about another merger. I'm looking forward to be furloughed with about 3,000 numbers above me.

Hpilot,

Don't worry our MEC and merger committee has everything under control. Our 'lets be fair' and not rock the boat approach has been working great so far.....If we do merge with UAL lets hope we've completed this one first. Then at least we would be represented by the AAA guys who have the guts to stand up and fight for every job out there.

The nice thing about the AWA-Usair merger is that no one has been furloughed.

Speaking of merger rumors, have you heard about this one? (Courtesty of money.cnn.com funny linky):

FedEx (Charts) and Starbucks (Charts) tied the knot. The resulting giant, FedEspresso, became a second home to road warriors and telecommuters. Its stores stayed open around the clock, fully equipped with coffee, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, and global shipping that allowed packages to move, inter-coffeeshop, within hours rather than days.

Cheers,
Beertini

Who is buying who in the UAL / USAir merger this time??????

In 2000, UAL was officially, no way to dispute, buying USAir and the USAir guys wanted date of hire. (That was funny.)

In 2005, AWA arranges to keep USAir from going out of business, gets them exit financing and USAir guys want date of hire.

So in this merger / buy out, can't wait to see what the USAir position is on seniority. Bet they think they will be flying those big 777 and 747.

I highly doubt, if this merger happened, that a UAL pilot is going to let some USAir take his big airplane.

Actually, it will be an Alaska, Delta, CAL, NWA four way deal. UAL will pair up with USAir and AirTran. SWA will then purchase JetBlue, and then Midwest for new "first class service".

Eventually, all three groups will collapse from their own weight. Cabotage will be permitted, and you'll be able to fly from LA to NY on Mexican owned "Aero Gringo" for $19.95 utilizing all outsourced labor.

The biggest beneficiary to all of this will be Amtrak and Greyhound. Union Pacific and other large railroads will re-start passenger service to steal market share.

Any other fantasies?

no shiite. it was a joke. he bought twa because he couldn't stand that the new united (after announcing it was buying usair) would be bigger than aa. the so called "smaller pecker" syndrome.

All kidding aside, I hear it's a done deal. UAL management is reportedly heading all seniority arguments off at the pass by mandating top 70% UAL goes on top, with 3/1 slotting for their bottom 30% fo's with none of them getting credited with anything less than 1/1/97 date of hire.
Should be interesting to see how ALPA handles it, as this level of company intervention is unprecedented.
Good luck to all.

Section 1 mandates that any merger must integrate the pilot seniority lists according to ALPA merger policy. I have not seen the UAL contract, but I bet they have similar language. If so, the lists will be integrated by that policy and the company will have to accept it.
