I purchased Avlog Pro five(or so) years ago and stopped using it when the old computer it was installed on died.

Now, I'm getting the itch to get computerized again, and am looking for a replacement. Since the old laptop is broken (the floppy drive is dead) I can't extract the files and might as well start over.

Here's the question, does anyone use Avlog Pro?, and has it been improved during the last four years?

thanks,
enigma

Does your laptop have a USB port? Get a JumpDrive or other media drive, plug it in, xfer your data. You don't want to enter in that crap all over again.

Get a USB Floppy drive?

Got a network card? File sharing works.

Got a modem? Email the files to yourself :)

Tons of great ideas are there to get your old data off that lappy.

VIK,

I shoulda been more specific. It's a CompaqLTE5150. Windows95, 24 megs of RAM. No network capability. No CD drive. No USB. I've tried to email the file to myself but it isn't working. I've tried to use a cable to cable connection, but my new XP maching won't recognize the old computer. So I've pretty well given up on getting it off of that machine. I may take it to a data recovery specialist and pay $140 for them to somehow recover the data, but I don't want to do that until I determine if the old Avlog Pro software is worth it, OR if the data will transfer to Logbook Pro. I wasn't exactly happy with Avlog, and would just as soon do the reentry on Logbook Pro as I would continue using the "old" Avlog Pro.

Thanks for your input.

regards,
enigma

Find THE data file for that software and ZIP compress it using something like Winzip (www.winzip.com) and you can zip compress it to floppies (it should fit on one, but will span multiple floppies if needed). Then send that ZIP file to Neal ([email protected]) and he can take it and bring the data into Logbook Pro. He can bring in just about any data file now.

I used to have Avlog Pro and now use Logbook Pro. The previous post was correct- if you send your logbook to Logbook Pro support they can send it back to you in a workable format and you shouldn't have to retype in your data. It took a little bit of effort to get it up and running but it all worked out okay. I was very impressed by the product support of Logbook Pro.

Good luck recovering your data! And for what it's worth, Logbook Pro is a much better program.
