MANCHESTER, England - An American Airlines pilot was arrested at Manchester Airport on suspicion of being drunk Saturday shortly before his flight was due to take off, police and the airline said.
One of three pilots on Flight 55 to Chicago had been arrested before the flight boarded on suspicion of being intoxicated, airline spokesman Tim Wagner said.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a crew member, a 45-year-old man from Ohio, had been arrested. He was released on bail pending the results of tests and was due to report to a Manchester police station Tuesday, a police spokesman said. ad_dap(250,300,'&PG=NBCMSN&AP=1089');
The flight, scheduled to depart at 10:30 a.m. local time, left the northwestern English city about an hour late and was due to stop in New York to pick up a new pilot before continuing to Chicago. Three pilots are required on flights lasting longer than eight hours.
The plane was expected to land in Chicago at 3:50 p.m. CST.
Wagner said the airline, based in Fort Worth, Texas, had begin an internal investigation into the arrest, which he called an “isolated incident.”

When are these morons going to wise up? Hopefully he does'nt have a worthless degree in Aviation Science to begin his new career with.

If he's been flying long enough to get to AA international flying (probably gonna be starting another kind of AA pretty soon), chances are he's forgotten everything he learned in his non-aviation degree if he did get one.

He was detained on "suspicion" of being intoxicated. Thats all. Until the final judgement comes out I suggest you armchair quarterbacks hold your tongues.

Remember the AA Captain that was detained for suspicion of being intoxicated a few years ago? Well it turns out he blew a 0.0015 which basically means he was stone cold sober. He was blasted by pilots and the media alike. I wonder if anyone apologized to him for convicting him of the "crime" before the facts came out.

If this guy turns out to be guilty then let him accept his punishment, but I find it very disheartening that you morons would convict him without even knowing the facts.

Hey...you ever think of starting a new career as a criminal defense attorney? It's never to late.

I agree with dangerkitty; at least wait until the test results are back and made public before you start blasting a fellow pilot.

We're not laughing at him, we're laughing with him.

Thanks for helping me make my point.

How about the AA Captain that was "convicted" by the media and fellow pilots on this board when infact it was a MAJOR screwup by the TSA? He was not intoxicated at all but the papers and his fellow pilots sure blasted him any chance they could. Where were they to apologize? Thats right, they were no where to be found.

bummer

I feel bad for the guy. He *&^$^ up but who hasn't? We should learn from this guy and not be dicks.

P.S., visine and altoids! bottoms up....

Visine and altoids, huh?

So you advocate being under the influence as long as one can escape detection by your "proven" methods.

...man, I won't play my Nintendo if I've had more than 2 beers. And you feel its safe to fly a plane with unsuspecting passengers.

I hope this AA guy loses his certificates and ends up mopping the goo off the floor inside the shacks of late-nite porno stores.

Thanks for the enlightenment. Of course I advocate flying drunk. Its better that way.......like skiing or sex!

Now, hopefully everyone but you will realize that I am full of sarcasm and @#$% and not take me seriously.

I said we should learn from this guy. Why don't you get some more experience before ripping guys that have been around a lot longer than you or I. Do you even know what happened besides reading a newspaper excerpt?

Besides, your little remark about him losing his certificates and mopping floors is angry, spiteful, and stupid. Be quite. Don't judge.

See ya

...and if you read my comment correctly (sarcastically), I also stated that I won't play Nintendo after having a beer. Isn't that a little ridiculous sounding? Guess you find that or my comment about mopping unfunny.

Yeah, becuase you were there and know for a fact that he did it.

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? I guess that doesn't apply to pilots and how they view other pilots.

Well that makes more sense then
If you get into the rhetorcal end of it, then you'll know what is we're not laughing about.
