I recently visited a unit and was less than impressed with how I conducted myself. All the guys there were great and very accomodating. It was my first time visiting a unit, but I should have known that going in and prepared for it. Instead, I maintained a timid demeanor and never really loosened up to my "true" self.

My question isn't so much how to behave around a unit. Nor is it on implementation (I'm quite sure that I'll never make that mistake again). Rather, it is directed at possible "damage control" and what would be the best way to remedy the situation. Unfortunately, the unit is preparing to deploy and I'm unsure whether or not there will be additional UTA's between now and the selections for interviews.

Any ideas are much appreciated!!

Quite frankly, I think anyone being a bit nervous or tight on their first visit would be completely expected. You dont' know anyone, its a new environment, and the stakes are high.

Dust yourself off, and go back the next chance you can. Bring whiskey and beer. Don't be afraid to tell someone..."hey...last time you asked me something, and I don't think I answered the way I would of liked...can I tell you again?" A honest, straightforward, but not overbearing approach would make the most sense. We've all been outside looking in at some point...

Good luck.
