Since I'm a lowtimer, and still will be after UPT, I was wondering what some of you Guard pilots would think about a bunch of guys in the same unit purchasing an aircraft. I think this would be at an advantage for all parties involved.

1. Any Guard member involved would be able to get their civillian certificates and ratings if they don't already have them.

2. Those who do not have "competative" hours will be able to build time cheap.

3. Since all owners will be Guard aviators, you will (most likely) reduce the risk of getting a dead-beat partner. All owners will also know eachother before the deal and (most likely) know who they can/can't trust.

This was just an idea that I thought of a few minutes ago, so if it's completely ridiculous, please disregard. What do you guys think?

been done in my old unit and worked out well. Several navs and loadmasters got their tickets while trying to get to UPT, and guys with tickets used it for trips.

What kind of airplane did you guys have? I'm thinking a cheap twin of some sort, like an Apache or Aztec...

The guys in my unit that did it had an old beater 172. A twin gets into a whole different ball game. You will get more interest in a simple single than a twin. You may get guys who never thought about getting their private, interested in getting a plane, but move to a twin and you are gonna exclude that crowd and limit yourself to guys that already have multi-engine ratings. Just my .02 worth. Good luck on your quest.

Why don't you go get your CFI and or II,MEI and you will build time much faster than you think and people will pay you. Ya it sucks and the hours are bad but you cannot beat the networking that goes on there. Im proof that someday your student will be the guy who hires you some day.

Got em all except MEI and I should be getting that soon. I just thought this would be a cheap way of ownership...
