I was wondering if there was anyone around that had taken on a 5 year contract with the ANA Group? Have you known anyone that renewed after 5 for another round?

Just trying to look at all the angles. I have pretty good info on the interview and medical, etc. Just trying to look ahead to QOL commuting from the US each month. Questions like schedules. Number of nights on your own dime in Tokyo. Possible crashpad info. (I already know that a full apartment set up would probably cost way too much for one person).

Anyone heard of being offered an upgrade during your first 5yrs, or after the first 5 only?

 What's the interview like? Is it the ole....bend over and vomit the aerodynamics manual? Or is it a basic 747 type ride WITHOUT the type? Thanks for the info!

I know a guy from ATA that was hired as a Captain. I think he said the pay from day 1 of training was 160K. So yes, I think you can upgrade in the first 5 years.

I am in the March 12 class starting that contract. There have been upgrades in the past, but for the next few months, they are only hiring FOs. You are provided $1000 a month for a commuting allowence and access to ZED fares. Depending on where you commute from in the US, it shouldnt be too bad. You are also given a housing allowence of $500 for a place in Tokyo. There are some hotels around the airport that are about $50 a night. Thats not too bad considering that the city is a 2 hour drive away.

Looking at a typical schedule, you would be in tokyo probably less that 10 nights a month. Schedules look pretty good. Guarenteed 10 consecutive days off a month. The AJX side only flies to three cities. HNL (24 hour overnight), HKG (about 36 hour overnight) and CAN (out and back). If you are on standby duty (reserve), the company provides the hotel for you.

Average pay for an FO is about is about 108,000 1st year then about 120,000 after that. That includes salary, per diem, retirement contribution, travel allowance, and housing allowance.

All in all it seems like a pretty good contract. There have been upgrades in the past, around 3 years time I believe. There are no guarentees thought and they could hire a guy off the street as a CA before you ever get a chance to upgrade. The difference in pay between FO and CA is only about 1500 per month.

Any other questions, let me know..

Are you based in the U.S.? The current app says Narita basing. TC

The base is NRT. The cargo side is rumored to be opening an ORD base sometime in the near future but I would not count on it too much. I will personally be commuting it from BKK most of the time, with a trip back home to the usa every few months.

D328, Thanks for the info. It seems like a leap of faith to break off and jump into a 5 year contract. I was thinking that the CA's got more like 160 to 180k depending on Px vs Cargo.

Are you pretty happy with the scheduling? Is there any type of request that can be submitted before it's finalized?

Are the vacation days added on to the 10 days off? Or do they space them out randomly?

I dont know too much about the scheduling just yet. I start class in a few months and there are not too many active guys that post online. I think that most guys consider the schedules to be pretty good.

It is about 150,000 a year for a captain job. 10,000 per month pay and per diem, 1500 housing and commuting allowance, and 870 per month retirement payment. I think that cargo side is a little higher.

I think it can be a little longer term employment that just 5 years. I believe that the only way your contract is not renewed is if you are a trouble maker. After all, the contract company makes a lot of money off of you working there.

Where to apply?

I looked at their website and didn't see any openings? Where is the pilot job info posted? What are their mins? Thanks.

These are probably the best guys to get hired on with. The job you want (probably) is the NCA Cargo job. They base you in the US, either JFK or SFO. Good pay as an FO as well.

It is not an easy task to get them to call you back, you have to call Hawaiian a few times and get someone on the phone to get noticed. Two of my friends have gotten hired at NCA Cargo trough HAS.

Good luck

The Hawaii aviation link above is one of the leasing companies for ANA and the other is www.parcaviation.aero. I submitted my stuff to Hawaii and they said to call back later this year so I send my stuff to Parc and I was at the interview 2 weeks later. I have herd that both are good but for tax purposes, you have to remember that Hawaii is a US based company so you will be getting a W2. Parc is Irish so it makes it easer to claim the foreign income exclusion provided you meet the other requirements too.......I think

If you are based in the USA, you will not be eligible for the 84,000 income tax exclusion with either contract company.

True..I was refering to the Air Japan contract where you are based in NRT. The NCA contract where you are based in SFO would not qualify.

I checked into the tax deal and if you are a US passport holder and step foot on US soil or even overfly US soil more than 40 or so days a year, you cannot claim the tax exemption no matter where your money comes from. I don't know if the IRS really knows you came through customs but AJX will be in Hawaii at least 2 days a month. AJV will be in the states more.
