I never said that. Why would you go to an airline with a possible upgrade in 2yrs? Or start building turbine Pic and in case something happens to the airlines you will have that time. I don't see why everyone wants to go to the regionals. Plus if you want crew time since that the airlines like that over SP then bid the Bro. People post 9/11 have gone to the Majors from AMF. Its really about who you know anyways. Look at the CAL post hiring people with 1500hrs and 0 TP.

There is a year commitment now for all new hires in all airplanes....I think.
OK, is there any recent new hire who can post on this forum if there is a year commitment or not? Would be news to me if there is.

Will leaving AMF after only 5 months look bad on my resume if I leave for SkyWest?? I did not sign a contract with AMF....Or should I just stay at AMF and upgrade to the 99 (PIC Turbine)?

I guess it depends on what your ultimate goals are. I am a former AMFer. If it's your goal to get on with a major then PIC time is golden. If you go to Skywest make sure you upgrade at first opportunity. I know so many pilots that went there from AMF that decided that QOF was what they wanted. They are still there many, many years later. Those pilots that upgraded ASAP have already gone on to a major. Also, you will meet more pilots to network with @ a regional that will move on before you and they can help you get a job with a major since it really is a who you know game right now.

I also know a pilot that didn't give 2 weeks notice leaving AMF from the Lear (AMF gives a "NO" to the "would you rehire this person" question) and he is still got jobs at some major corporate companies.

If you were to go to any regional airline with bad upgrade times I would say no to moving on and recommend getting the PIC @ AMF. I have friends that left AMF without the 1000PIC and went to places like Eagle and they are still at Eagle and don't have many place they can even qualify for.

So here's some food for thought.:)

Is it the right thing to do? If AMF took a chance on you and gave
you a job where you could get turbine (or multi, whatever) time,
with the understanding that you wouldn't leave for a year, then
don't, whether you signed a contract or not, or whether or not it
looks good to a future employer!

Try doing the right thing....sheesh.

why do you fly so much in PR? Because not many people want to go there? or there is just tons of freight to fly around?

Upgrade in two years?!?
I'm with you. At Mesa that might be a realistic figure, but I doubt it at SkyWest or Horizon, unless you come in with a lot of quality PIC time to begin with.
If you want to go to SkyWest, do it because you like SkyWest. Otherwise you'll build seniority faster at AMF to get your type ratings and/or get those coveted long hauls to build your time.

That is the truth. My sim partner washed out when I went through last September back when it was a six month verbal agreement. He just passed it last week on try number two and signed a 1 year "integrity commitment".

Regarding the first guys post. Do what you said you would do. Is bailing out one month early worth breaking your word? I know at my interview I agreed to stay 6 months after my 135 checkride. AMF is a good company and I am glad to know that if I left I would be eligible for rehire.

Amf has no right to be upset if people leave. They themselves ask flight instructors to come to work for them tomorrow. Obviously none of those pilots have a chance to give notice. If AMF wants people to break commitments and not give notice they shouldn't be upset when it happens to them.

BTW, for the original poster, do what you feel is right for you. If your life/career is better today if you go to Sky West than go to Sky west. I think that is probably what you really want to do and how Ameriflight feels about that is not important. If they do try and make any claims to future employers you can contest their statements and if the statements are false or misleading you have legal routes you can take. So don't worry about that threat that they'll add notes to your training records. I have a feeling that when that gets challenged they'll end up paying someone a lot of money.
