Will leaving AMF after only 5 months look bad on my resume if I leave for SkyWest?? I did not sign a contract with AMF....Or should I just stay at AMF and upgrade to the 99 (PIC Turbine)?

If you did'nt sign a contract, go. You and the countless other people that have left AMF to go to Sky West are way better off. If you only want to stay to get turbine PIC, you are looking at another 3 years or so at AMF to get the kind of PIC you need to get in somewhere like Southwest. If you make captain at Sky West in 2 or so you are going to be getting way better time towards your ultimate goal, and in relatively the same amount of time(AMF turbine pilot only fly 300-500 hrs a year) How much PIC time in airplanes no one but freight operators have flown in the last 10-20 years do you need anyways. I know people were threatened by management at AMF about leaving without putting a year in, but if thats what they require, they should have a contract. Dont worry after your all done at Sky West and moving on in a few more(hopefully) years netiher you, or the interviewer where you go will give a second thought about AMF.

There is no training commitment in AMF piston A/C, so leaving AMF will not be a blemish on your future career path. I have personally lost count the number of AMF alumni that have moved on to SkyWest!

As far as hanging out for turbine pic time, you will have to weigh up the pro's and con's and make a decision that best fits your interests.

Good luck.

I know of people getting the 1300hrs for SWA in a little over a year. Upgrade at AMF then leave.

Yes, because as soon as you hit the "magic" 1000 (or 1300 for SW) you will immediately be hired by (insert favorite airline here).

Ahh yes that "magic" 1000 Turbine PIC..I lost count of all all job offers that came when I got to that point. Then that 2000th hour of Turbine PIC "magically" fixes that glitch in your brain that allowed you to be foolish enough to even momentarilly beleive that it was the magic number 1000 that caused the sirlines to call you.

Ive never heard of anyone getting 1000 hours+ at AMF in a year.....MAYBE you could do it in san juan...maybe.

1000+...yep

I have flown 980 hours (730 PIC turbine,700 night) in the last 12 months at AMF. I get 5.5-5.9 a night. But it is not common at all.

If you do go to Skywest immediately, you might want to plan on staying there 10 years or so. Skywest is hurting for warm bodies right now and doesn't care what commitments you break to go to work for them. However, when you decide to leave Skywest that 10 year background check will have any potential employer calling AMF to hear about what they thought of you. Leaving early may come back to haunt you in this respect unless someone doesn't care about your prior breaking of a commitment.
