For all you AMF folks in SLC I have a couple of questions. Rumor has it that you are short 99 pilots. Is that true? I am in the PA31 in OAK and looking at and upgrade to the 99 in 2-3 more months. That would put me in the PA31 for 9-10 months. I am trying to feel it out.

What are the worst 99 run's as far as flight time go? What are the best? In OAK we only have a couple of 99 runs (we have 5 outstation UPS run's but, they are locked in).

Just want to get some intel so, I can make an informed decision.

Thanks for the help.

With a few guys upgrading to the Metro, I'm sure there will be vacancies.

The shortest run I can think of is Pocatello, the longest goes down to Burbank. There's only one outstation base, and it's filled. Most are roughly an hour each way with an all day layover at the outstation.

99 runs go to the following cities:

Pocatello, Twin Falls, Jackson Hole, Rexburg, Burbank, Reserve.

Metro runs:

Twin Falls, Idaho Falls, Rock Springs, Price & Vernal, Billings, Elko, Reserve.

1900 Runs:

Cedar City/St. George

Occasionally the Metro and 1900 runs get swapped around when loads require a bigger airplane, but that's the "general" a/c schedule.

I'm also an AMFOAKer (actually right in front of flyin94) with the same basic questions about SLC.
Are the runs mostly mon AM to fri PM or is it mon PM to sat AM stuff. hows the management mx pilots etc. I've been in the pa31 since september and its looking like mid july at the earliest to upgrade in oakland. Even then i'll be flying a 99 half the time and a chieftain the rest for several more months so pure turbine time sounds pretty attractive

All the runs are Mon. AM to Fri. PM, except for the outstationed run that goes home on Saturday morning, and starts again Monday evening.

There are 2 Saturday Be-99 runs, plus reserve. These go out for bid to everyone qualified in the 99. If nobody bids on them, the junior pilots get volun-told. Reserve is usually senior (mine!) because it's easy money. One run goes to St. George and lays over for a few hours, then comes back in the afternoon. The other run goes to Rock Springs and Jackson Hole, and comes back in the early afternoon. Reserve just brings breakfast and sits there in dispatch eating donuts for a couple hours until all of the UPS flights leave. Rarely has to fly anywhere unless loads are unusually heavy, a Salmon Air plane breaks, or someone calls in sick.

Management in SLC is good, very laid back. Maintenance is getting better. Good group of pilots. The absolute worst part of being based there (in my opinion) is having to taxi from our ramp on the southeast side to the north cargo area clear across the airport and back at night. Mornings are no big deal, but I've had it take 40 minutes in the evening from startup to shutdown, and that's beyond lame when all you want to do is go home. Sometime this century, they might actually erect the hangar at north cargo that they've been promising since this base came into existence. That would make a huge difference for the better.

Anyone that is interested in transferring here should put in their bid. At least then you have the option, you don't have to take it if you change your mind.

sounds like a really good deal compared to flying chieftains half the time for the next year. my standing bid will go in tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help guys

Management in Salt Lake City is the best in the system in my opinion. I think all SLC pilots on here would agree as well. Both the ACP and OPS manager work as a team with the pilots and are very helpful. When I was there they would both be on the ramp every morning. Pretty outstanding considering the office was a balmy 72 degrees while they put themselves on a ramp at 0500 in the same 0 degrees and blowing snow as the pilots. They definitely lead by example.

The words "Team SLC" actually means something there. They deliver 110% to keep morale up, despite a pretty grueling schedule. They have a great group of pilots and everyone works together to get the job done and also hang out after work and on the weekends.

And as Tinman so eloquently put it... It's not the same since HE left!
