Fellow AMF Brothers

Our ex Chief Pilot, Current management Pilot/Pilot Recuirter/Charter Pilot and General Ass Kisser managed to land one of our Learjets at the wrong Airport this morning. He was intended for Fox Field and thought that Palmdale AFB looked very much like FOX Field. He and his brand new FO were greeted warmly by USAF boys with guns.

Lets hope GR finds it in himself to dish out the same punishment to him that our brothers have gotten for crimes a lot less severe.

It's likely that some pronouncement will be made, but historically, management pilots at AMF, like those of virtually every other carrier on the face of the earth, have never suffered the same wrath for non-fatal, non tin-bending faux pais that line pilots do.

Many of the airplanes that AMF operates have been in service longer than some of the guys that are flying them. Believe me, if they could talk, they would tell tales that would curl your hair.

I hate it when I do that. Always landing at Love when I meant to hit DFW. Oh well, it's a quick taxi back to the right airport, and you just put airport conditions in for the delay code. The hardest part is jumping the curb back at the big 'Dub without the TSA shaking you down for your bottled water and hair gel.

Oh dear. If this is true I cannot think of two more dissimiliar airports in which to make such a mistake! Waiting for the memo to explain this one.

PMD vs. WJF.

PMD is a 30 day advance notice airport. There are 3 DOD (8400 series) forms that need to be processed and approved before one can land there. I ended up diverting one day recently to WJF when we were told by Joshua approach that our forms were not approved. I am glad that we did not meet the same fate as this crew. Besides, WJF is what, ~10 miles NW of PMD?

I guess some don't bother to backup with any available approach.

For you all this guy has caused headaches I am with you hoping that he gets his.

We all make mistakes however this sounds like someone who goes after you for the smallest items.

Hello,

The sooner folks realize that there are NO real stories on forums the better off we will ALL be!!!

Have you ever noticed that there is more crying on here than anything?

Pilots as a whole are a whiny and overpaid bunch. I include myself in this.

I know a guy that took off in a Citation with a lot of pax in back and headed for Richmond, VA...they get off the plane and the pax are like, "Uh, we're supposed to be in Richmond, IN." D'oh!

yet another fine example of people jumping to conclusions with little or no facts...

AMF SLC Brothers

You boys need to suck some O2 and wake up. Call our Chief Pilot, Sean Kaveny and ask. He will tell you that Pilot Recuiter/Charter Pilot took a Lear and landed at the wrong airport. Simple as that. Came over the hill from Burbank, he landed at what he thought was WJF, only to find out that it was Palmdale AF. The facts are simple.

Our Director of Safety should be issuing a memo on how to identify a airport soon.

i had a pretty lengthy discussion with my acp yesterday about it just asking whether it was true and i found out most of the details. but for those who actually work for us and want to find out, just like was said...ask your acp or call Kaveny.

This is especially funny for me as during the oral portion of my checkride, I told Bob I would use PMD as an alternate for WJF for a flight plan. I had shot many approaches there all week in training, but never looked at it on the enroute charts. Since I was shooting approaches there I assumed it was a mixed use (civ/mil) base.

Bob was ranting and raving at me, telling me what would happend to me if I landed there. I thought my checkride was over, but apparently thats how he conducts a checkride. Thank god I did not have to fly with him.

As I remember PMD is up against a set of mountains and WJF is in the middle of the Valley. It just backs up what was discussed in our most recent meeting. Most of AMF accidents are from long term employees, while the low time folks are nervous about screwing up so are focused.

Actually, if Bob stopped ranting and raving then you'd know your checkride was over.
