Current AMF employees:

I am a 1900 captain for a regional airline. I find myself getting tired of flying people around and am looking at going back to the cargo world. Some quick info about me: 2200TT, 600 Be1900, 1650 PIC. I used to fly single pilot 135 cargo and have a little less than 400 hours FAR 135. I just had a couple of quick questions as I am considering turning in an application at AMF.

What are the 1900 bases?

Are there reserve pilots at each of the bases, and if so how long would it take to hold a line?

Does Ameriflight fly the 1900's single pilot?

And finally the one everyone asks: Is there a possibility of getting hired directly into the left seat of a 1900?

Bases with the 1900 come and go depending on the year. If your at a base that has a 1900 and then gets taken away they will either let you follow the plane or type you in the metro.

Depends on the base, whether the run is outstationed, etc.

I saw a company wide bid about 4 months ago for a 1900/metro reserve out of PDX (they would have typed you in the metro so your dual qualed)

Definantly if your willing to go where they need you

There is no pay during the first week of indoctrination. You will be paid something like $7/hour after that but only for the time you are training with an instructor or you are in class.

Keep in mind that there are half as many 1900s in the fleet, so once you are typed in a metro your options will be greater. Metro training occurs at Flight Safety in Seattle.

1) I think every base has 1900's. (not sure though)
2) Yes. SLC reserve goes senior.
3) Yes
4) Possibility, but I think there are too many people wanting the upgrade, but who knows.

Most of the people getting hired directly into the 1900 or the Metro are filling positions that open from time to time in San Juan. Most other bases fill their vacancies from within.
 
Thanks alot for the info. I'm still trying to decide, but 1900 capts at AMF are making almost twice what I am at my present job. The other aspect is that I'm only flying about 20 hours a month on a crappy reserve line. I'm sure there are some guys who would like that kind of thing, but I want to fly. I'll sleep on it. Thanks again.
 
Does your type say SIC required? All of the 1900 typed guys that I've seen come in have had that restriction. Not a huge deal though.
 
Yeah, I was thinking about that. It does say SIC required but like you said I figured it wouldn't be too hard to get that removed. The only thing an SIC does on a 1900 is run the heat/ac anyways, and usually they're doing such a poor job that I spend my time asking them to raise or lower the temp.
