i was looking on the ameriflight website and it says they are hiring into be-99's based out of visalia. can any of you amf guys tell me what the story is on that run? i was curious why they can't fill it internally.

Some runs aren't very wanted, usualy it turns into a quality of life reason. Would you like to work 6 days/week? If your already in a base where you have a 5 day work week why go outstation and add in another day.

so what's the deal on that. it is a 6 day run? is that overtime or what? also, what's the story on being outbased? is the run based in kvis or kont?

visalia is a outstation run. layover in KONT at crew apartment. departs ohhh somewhere around 0645 or so with a show of 0530. comes home around 1915. do this monday through saterday am. with a pm show on monday to start the week over.

the reason they can't fill this run is becasue visalia isn't exactly a paradise. and the old pilot whom i know well is in metro training.

little info

alright, last question: does the run end in visalia everyday (night)?
the run will stay in ONT everynight except sat. and sun. nights... you will be in visalia during the day... no hotel in ONT you will be staying in the crew apartment which I havn't seen in over a year so I'm not sure of it's current condition but the run does usually make a little extra money because it normally goes to fresno then back to visalia in the morning...

Anything in particular that folks don't like about Visalia? Does it usually get a B or C99? Are there many other outstation based 99's? I know about IDA and HLN, are there many others?

There are four 99 outstations in PDX. La Grande which is already filled, two in Redmond and one in Klamath Falls. I think a large part of the BLI base is outstationed also.

All the outstation runs I know of are 6 days week. Starting Monday in the PM and Ending Saturday in the AM. So you only have one full day off, but you have over 48 consecutive hours off, you only get paid for 5 days. You will fly from the outstation on monday night and spend each night at the base crash pad and have the weekends at your outstation home.

The only reason I can see to take an outstation is you already live there, or you have an opportunity to upgrade very early or you will get hired with less than the required hours because they are desperate to fill the station. I had two offers to upgrade via an outstation but chose to transfer instead. I was told once outstationed, you can not upgrade or move back to the base until they fill the run, which could take a while. Now that I think about it, it would be nice to be in your home town on a weekday.

Im flying from an outstation. I like it, get to sleep at night and have all day at home to do what ever. Start at 9pm and im done at 7am.

The best outstation run at AMF has got to be San Angelo-Austin. It's a Metro (recently upgraded from 99) that starts Monday evening and finishes on Friday morning. Long weekend and layovers are in Austin. Pretty sweet gig.

Sounds like a winner. The more I got to thinking, the more outstation runs sound good, provided you are stationed in a town you like. It would be nice to be in town M-F.

3 day weekends and layover in Austin, I am sure that one has no trouble getting filled. When I was in BIGS for AMF there was someone hired into a run that had a layover in Austin from outside the company.

That depends on the particular base. I came off an outstation without the run being filled first. I had been on the outstation for 14 months, so I had gone well beyond the 6 month commitment. It also was a Metro outstation that the base would have no problem filling internally.

I'm thinking more along the lines of family life. I can come home just in time to go to bed, and leave first thing in the morning, or I can be home all day and sleep on the other end. I can see how flying the same route every day indefinitely can be a down side.

VIS outsation

I did that run for 8 months. You show on Monday in the afternoon, in Visalia, to start your week. Fly to Ontario and stay at the layover which is not much to speak of. In the morning you show in Ontario to fly back to Visalia and hang out at "home" till the afternoon return leg. Do this until Saturday morning when you stay in Visalia until Monday afternoon. Good news is that you make some extra money by flying into Fresno everyday. About four units a day I believe. I did it to get into the 99 quickly and built turbine time. Its hard to fill internally because Visalia is a small farmtown which is ok but when you're not from there a serious bore. The Ontario layover isn't very nice either. So the question is, how badly do you want to get turbine PIC time?

I know the guy that flies that now, and loves it. There's also a UPS run out of sacramento thats not as good as the Austin run, but better than most outstations. It operates almost like a bank run...monday thru friday, show around 6am home by 7pm. MHR-EKA (with a stop in RDD on monday mornings) Its the only UPS run I know of that operates like that. Easy to fill internally though, and whoever takes it usually does it for a while.

I was in Be99 training last month with a guy that was going to be outstationed in Sacramento. I assume that he was taking that run. I imagine the good outstation runs get filled internally. It's the Visalias that go to people new to the company, or short of the required hours. If you go to the right station you will not need to move to upgrade.

Yes sir 1946 is a hard posiion to fill. Its always Below mins up there, stay in BFL til lthe weather clears, If it clears! Remember a couple of times on a Sat. Pilot departed ONT 0730, VIS reporting 1\8 OVC001 he had to land in BFL and wait it out. Only problem was it never cleared, We decided he could leave the plane there and his wife would come pick him up in BFL (He lived in BFL anyways he just made the commute VIS-BFL)

Also what no one metitions is while your at the ONT Layover there are also 2-3 other pilots there, sometimes 4.

barracuda in wondering if that was you who was in BFL.

Cant wait to see the former pilot in a metro, those who know her, you know what I mean.
