No..

Hiding a known SAFETY AD from the top level managers at the FAA was what got Southwest AND the FAA inspectors involved in trouble.

Going to the head of the FAA with a technical violation of an AD is different. If that's all it is. As I said earlier.. if it's something as simple as what the earlier poster implied.. there's room to work.

Great logic there pipe...You want SWA to go out of business so your companies failed buisness plan can work??? We are making money and you are not! It is that simple.

Does anyone think that AA, DAL would see a potential net gain for these cancellations. Possibly using the maitenance as an excuse for a short term reduction in capacity. Or do you think the costs associated with a move like this outweigh the gain? Anyone?

No way... the bad publicity AA is getting (go look at the front page of CNN.com) has to far outhweigh any potential short term material gain.

......had SouthBest not been "caught" as you like to say, ameriscum would still be intentionally flying these md-80s in an un-airworthy condition? Wow. Obviously SWA was much more in compliance with their jets than aa. We just had to inspect 44 jets and cancelled two hundredish flights compared to the fiasco aa now finds itself.

Hey kool-aid,

Im no AandP, and you definitely sound like you aren't either- flying around with cracked planes seems much different than just wiring bundles.

Your airline's numerous FAA "lobbying tactics" brought about this mess, and the rest of us are getting f-ed due to the expected knee-jerk reaction to make a point. First Jetblue's incompetence then this.

It's the typical example of the bad kid in kindergarten doing something bad during recess, so then recess gets cancelled for all.

The pizza money you're saving on not giving it to MDW tower should go towards all the people that have had their flights cancelled the last 3 weeks.

Little history for you, sparky.

That "failed business plan" is what made possible the airline industry in America.

WN became successful only by undercutting the established legacy competition.

I guess they went after the only company that could actually afford to pay a fine.

Over a thousand canceled flights is going to cost American a lot more than 10 mil.

Has Allegiant been hit yet?

No lesson needed here Mr. Prog. The legacy's are using a failing business model. If WN's model ever comes to a point where they are not making profits then they must change or suffer the consequences. BTW SWA did not "undercut"...they provided a product for a cheaper price. Skybus and Independence "undercut"...therefore they are no longer here.
