With all due respect but do you know how the 121 world works? If everyone followed the rules to the letter of the law, there would be absolute chaos. Reminds me of an old interview question:
It's Christmas eve at an outstation (nighttime), tower's closed, planes full of connecting pax, maintenance gone for night, you notice the nav light burnt out. What do you do future captain?

q: What do you do future captain?
A: I write up the discrepancy, call the company, and tell them to find contract maintenance to fix the nav. Light....then i relax and lean back and read my book until it get's fixed or we time out and need to go to the hotel.
And, my answer would be the same if i was making $400,000/yr or was in the middle of a nasty situation like amr is now.
Simple.
It's called being a professional. I do my job, you do yours.
Any company that doesn't want to hire me with that answer....is a company i don't want to work for.
It's the idiots that risk their tickets ( " departing with a known deficiency " in this case ) who think they are saving the day and being hero's to the company and their passengers....that allow company's to become totally mismanaged and unworkable.
Why is there no maintenance at the station ( in this example) with a known departure not having been accomplished ?
That is just p-poor planning and a total lack of management....and management is not my job. Why do so many fools try to make it theirs?
My license say's "airline transport pilot" not..." maintenance scheduler / overseer of inept planning / janitor who cleans up other people inexcusable messes."
rant over.

Maybe not as labor friendly as we'd like it to be, but 100% more labor friendly than what would be in place under anti-union Mitt Romney.
I'm Jewish. What's Christmas?
I spent three years at a major airline.
IN MY PERSONAL OPINION;... With all respect, I believe that every pilot should follow the rules...

Part of the deal in being a successful Captain is knowing which rule to bend and/or how far to bend it. We'd finish few flights if we played the "perfect every day" game.
I'm not surprised your major airline career was three years! ;-)
And yet under a mitt Romney administration, the economy does better, more people are able to fly to Disneyland, your company does better, you upgrade quicker, you get a better contract, you make more $$$, you are able to buy Melvin the GI Joe with the kungfu grip, Momma is happy, she eats more, gets fat, you lose interest, knock up the babysitter, marry her, dump Momma and live happily ever after.
Ironic, eh?

Oh then yes, lets violate rules and regs so we get home, thats OK on Christmae eve, but not Oct 10th.What would your answer be if it was YOUR last leg home on Christmas Eve and your family was waiting on you for dinner?
