What does everyone think about American Eagle. Specifically how long is the upgrade time? Just curious in knowing more about the company from someone that may work for them. Im currently in the process of getting ready to apply to a bunch of regionals. Thanks for any help!

i can't talk about upgrade times, qol, or anything of that nature. i don't work for them, but run into their crews now and then on the van to the hotel..

yeah, majority of them seem disgruntled, when talking about work. however, every single eagle crew member that i've talked to has seemed outwardly very professional, personable, and generally like a good group of folks.

i hope the best for them, really, cause, i know they've got a world of $hit to put up with.

About 4.5 years to Saab captain, 5.5 years to CRJ700 captain.
In your dreams

It's True 4.5 EMJ CA and 5 years 9 months to CRJ CA
If they keep hiring 40 to 50 a month those numbers should drop as well.

Just curious ...

One of my first CFIs back in 1996 flew the ATR for Simmons and CFI'd part-time, and he was one of the most miserable pilots I've ever met. Here this guy is who had made it to what was then an awesome starting point to the majors, and looked upon with awe by the other instructors who were going to instruct to 135 times then fly at Ram Air for a couple years before getting a shot ... and he literally dreaded going in. He once said he'd rather instruct than fly for Eagle. By all accounts, he was generally a very upbeat person before Eagle, and seemed to otherwise be a great guy and not a known complainer. So I have to ask ...

What is it about Eagle, and the three regionals before consolidation, that makes folks so d@mn miserable? I know pilots are much like grunts, they love to complain, but I don't think I've heard as much complaining from pilots of all other regionals combined as I've heard over the years from Eaglets.

Why dat?

Just curious ...

Eagle seems to be one of the lowest paying regionals right now, so I understand why it seems like alot of eagle pilots are disgruntled. I know pay is one of the top issues, however I've heard qol is not the best either. On the other hand, every airline pilot group that I've been associated with seems to be disgruntled about something. Thinking back, I find it amusing that when i was a first officer on the 727, my 24 year old captain that I flew with alot was probably the worlds biggest whiner and always disgruntled about something. I can't figure out why, considering he made way over 6 figures, 1 week on/ 1 week off, paid airline travel to and from your base, and weekends off for the most part.
Back to eagle..I'd really like to be at AE right now. Like the quoted post, all eagle crews I've seen are very professional and appear to be a great group of pilots. One of my eagle friends did say that the upgrade time to SAAB ca is a little over 4 1/2 years.

Eagle is just like any other regional, better than some and worse than others. I have worked hear on and off for 3 ½ years. All these poor baby “ I didn’t get jet caption in 2yrs ” are the vocal minority. You choose to be either a positive person or a miserable sob, It’s your choice. The majority of pilots hear are good people, and fun to fly with. If your have 500 hrs and think you deserve to upgrade in 6 months so you can flow through to AA, please do us a favor and research the company before you apply.

Eagle is getting better. It seems when we are hiring and upgrading, people are happy. 50-70 newhires a month and upgrade in the 5 year range and falling. Ask again in 1 year things could change. Good place to get on right now.

....I bet those few FO's that left AE after almost 4 years to go Comair are **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**ting their pants now....:(

For all those that continue to bash American Eagle here are some facts:
I have been at eagle for 4 yrs and I am a Crj-700 fo in DFW.
I can't say that I am the happiest that I have ever been, but I make a comfortable living and live within my means and save at the same time.
In FEB of '04 I grossed 3439.53. Yes I did fly open time , but I still managed to get 13 days off. In MAR of '04 I grossed 3357.12, once again I flew open time and had 12 days off. Honestly though, my take home pay after all taxes, travel expenses, insurance and unioun dues was around 2600 as an average. A lot of that travel was by my friends and family and not me. And in most cases I got my money back!
If you go to the ALPA website and compare your hourly rates with the ones at Eagle you will notice that we are usually within a few dollars of most other carriers. Now CMR, Air Whiskey, ACA, ASA, Horizon are paid more than us. But we are slightly higher than COEX, Trans states, CHQ, PSA, and a few others. I can't comment on the pay data from other carriers, but the Eagle numbers were correct. If I am wrong let me know, but before people continue to bash this company do your research first.
Anyway you look at it nobody that works in this industry is a millionare, or will ever be one. The pay for most carriers is quite comparable. The difference lies in work rules, repect and upgrade times. These are some of the areas that Eagle lags behind the others.

"Priceless"

What you meant to say was "Priceless", you know like the VISA commercial. (or is it Mastercard??)

Any other REGIONAL taking deliveries of 3 RJ's a month out there?
At Trans States we are getting 2 Rj's a month(United ), is not 3 but we are way smaller than Eagle.
