Ex Independence guy here. I have an offer for an interview with AE. I plan on setting up the interview date tomorrow. I finally got my driving record from Florida saturday. Only took 3 and a half weeks.

Anyway, can anyone tell me about the interview? Sim? Where are they placing new hires (domicile/aircraft). Do you have a choice?

Anything else you have to offer will be appriciated. How long is reserve? Are there protections for commuters? Any web sites that may help with interview prep that you can point me to?

I live in Greenville, South Carolina (GSP). Im hoping for a Dallas assignment (I think) because my brother lives there and I could crash there for free. If I get the offer, of course.

Thanks in advance to all that can help. Feel free to PM me if you wish.

LGB...

Best of luck to you. It's random what planes and bases are offered first day... oldest in class chooses from what is available, then on down to the youngest.

So long as you have 2 scheduled flights that get you in before sign in time, you're covered via the commuter clause.

Apply at Great Lakes and Frontier, live in Denver, hang out in Boulder, fly for Lakes and wait for F9 to call up! I am sure you would be attractive with the prior 319 time.

Go Buffs!

So how is the CFI market in CO??

Geez. Eagle? YGBSM. Have you tried Virgin, JB, or some of the ACMI carriers? Believe me, you don't want to work for Eagle.

In terms of student load, it is slow but picking up fast... Just want to get through march and the bad weather should be behind us.

In terms of landing a CFI job out here. I hear it is tough, probably one of the hardest places in the country to find consistant work as a CFI. I am lucky and found what I think is the best school in the country for a CFI and yes I have been around the country looking at many schools.

Well, I have my stuff in at Frontier. I have since Indy went under. Would it really matter if I was at AE or GL? Just wondering. I have to admit that I dont know much about GL.

You dont have to tell me about Colorado. I was born and raised in Longmont. My family has had season tickets to CU football since the mid 70's. I would love to make it back there and get Buff season tickets. LOL

My app is in at all places from Fed Ex to Frontier, JB, Sky West, ASA, UPS, Air Tran ect...

It just does not seem to me, from what I have read on the net that AE is a bad place.

Its also the only place that I have gotten anything back from so far. Seems to me, from what I have read on the net, that AE is a preatty good place to work. FWIW...

"Home of the CU Buffs..." there is some radio station I used to listen to with that callsign.

Eagle is a good place to go if you are a 1000 hour CFI who needs to build time and get some turbine time in your logbook. You already are way beyond that, I don't think I would fool with AE if I was in your shoes. If you absolutely need a job I would take it until something better comes along, but I don't think AE is what you are looking for right now. Have you tried Skywest?

I have had the priviledge of meeting some of your former co-workers at NJA. I wish we didn't have the limited domiciles so we could be an option for you. Best of luck.

Thanks. We just dont have moving as an option right now. My wife was a 16 year FA with Indy/ACA. We are both out of jobs. She has yet to land a job as well. She is done with the FA path. She has had some bites but, no job as of yet...

Several of my buddies went to NJ. They seem to be happy with it. Thanks for the good wishes!!! :)

Nah, don't go Eagle.

If ya have 18 years seniority with EA, it may be something to hang your hat on, otherwise steer clear.

I had the option of stepping in and getting a left seat job on some ERJ or whatever they call them when my arse got furloughed from AA a few years ago.

Turned it down. Not sitting 20 days reserve in ORD for $4K. Minus crash pad and commuting expenses.

If ya are looking for job or a stepping stone after ya paid yer dues in the CFI world, go for it. Just keep in mind that there is a mutual agreement between managment and pilots: I screw you, you screw me.
AE managment would rather have you work for next to nothing, then quit on short notice to take the next job, than pay you decent and have a long and stable career with a good company...:(

I flew the same gig 20 years ago:
Eastern Metro Express.

It was the biggest commuter in the US back then, pretty much the same as Eagle is today.
Bunch of guys came aboard to get their twin/turbine time, then 12 months later get on with Business Express or the lucky ones, USAir, AA or Eastern.

Some guys made it a career. We were the first carrier in the US to get the SAAB 340. Pretty fancy airplane back then in the 80s. Glass and all.
The only other glass plane then was the B-757..PFM..Pure F.. Magic.

Eastern Metro Express paid captains $20.50 per hour.
Even back in those days it was D scale.
We finally got a union voted in and the captains pay jumped to $27.00 per hour..Yuippy dee-doo.

Apply to Gemini or Polar or some other decent jet operator....In addition to FDX, UPS and SWA, etc. of course.

Good luck and don't sell your self cheap.

LetsGoBuffs, I got a photo for you that you might like... I took it last summer.

Hope you enjoy!

LOL!!! Wonderful shot. My guess is that is in late spring or early summer. May or June. The green grass below the Flat Irons is a give away!!! LOL.

Shot about 8 or 9 in the morning judging from the shadows. Also, east addition to Folsom is there. Nice. You might give that to the U of C as they have not updated a lot of thier Folsom Pics.... lol

Great pic though. Love that Colorado sky. If only we could get the Husker fans to move back home.... ;) lol

Whoops that is the photo I was referring to......

My last game I saw in Folsom was my senior year when we put 62 up on the corn. That place was electric! I gotta watch some games this year if I am still in town.

Better dead than red, my friend!

Oh yes. That was indeed a grand day. Better dead than red indeed. LOL!!!!

As a former Neb. player, I can tell you CO has the absolute worst football fans in the nation hands down not to mention the most un-sportsmanlike players in the history of sports.

Eagle is a good regional in a crappy situation.

Take it if you have no better offer but don't expect to be off reserve on a jet for at least 18 mos, and upgrade is literally non-existant right now. Good bennies, equipment and people for the most part. Bad corporate culture and prospects for the future.

How about Netjets?
My friend got furloughed from Independence and went there. He really likes it.
He claims you can break $50K in the first year if you work the system.
They treat them well from what I hear which is something totally lost on Eagle.
Eagle has a lot of problems right now. Compelely lopsided flowthrough/flowback agreement (1/3 of our captains are flowbacks). 7-9 year FO's. However, they have not asked for paycuts yet.

Sure Im better than that. Just tell us you busted your type son.

I was in your shoes about 10 years ago. I had been flying 727s and ended up at Simmons (AE) then went to AA. If you need a job now, then go! Stay CURRENT flying for a 121 airline. There are many good people at Eagle. You will not upgrade right now, but judging from your experience you are not going to stay a long time.

If things ever get cleaned up here and we start recalling (we are short now, AMR is holding out as long as they can) they are going to recall, and recall fast. I wish I could give you a timetable.

You will have good health care, travel priv on AA, and a paycheck. I had flown for some supplemental airlines prior to AE (727). Considering the things I had seen and dealt with AE was not bad.

If you are going to ask a 500 hour pilot who has never flown anywhere else and now can not upgrade, I am sure he will tell you how horrible it is. However I have flown at 6 airlines, furloughed 3 times. Take it, and look for something you really want in the mean time.

Sorry to hear what you are going through. Best of Luck to you and your wife.

Letsgobuffs,

I picked this up off of our pilot website.

I was in Eagle recurrent last week, talked to the big cheese. The budget calls for hiring 10 to 12 first officers a month through the summer. Then, gearing up for 39 a month in the fourth quarter. I believe this might coinside with recalls in the fall.
