Engine failure causes jet to return
Washington-bound plane turns around, lands in Los Angeles
BREAKING NEWS.
LOS ANGELES, March 4 — An American Airlines jet made an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport on Monday morning shortly after takeoff after an engine failed, a spokeswoman for the airport said.
The jet landed safely and was being escorted back to the gate by emergency crews.
AMERICAN AIRLINES FLIGHT 76, which had been bound for Dulles Airport in Washington, D.C., returned to the Los Angeles airport about 30 minutes after its scheduled departure.
The jet landed safely, after turning around and banking back over the Pacific coast, and was being escorted back to the gate by emergency crews, the airport spokeswoman said.
Fake grenade causes LAX evacuation
“I can only say it was an extreme emergency and that is based on fact it came in opposite airway traffic ... that it came in off the ocean is highly unusual,” said Los Angeles Fire Chief Steve Franco.
