On Tuesday the 777 from JFK-LHR turned round after 3.5hrs and returned to JFK without explanation.
Anyone know why? All info appreciated. (Pissed off brother on flight)

My brother is not a pilot but said that the Simpsons movie stopped half way through (AAH the humanity!!!) and no explanation was given other than an FA saying it was being sorted.
The plus point was that they didn't have to clear immigration on return to JFK.

Wow, 3.5 hrs into the flight, I would have figured it would have already passed the ETP and would have continued to LHR (or the nearest European ETOPS alt).

I didn't know what the 777 had in regards to electrical sources. The loss of a gen on the 757 that I used to dx WAS a big ETOPS thing, so that's what I was going off of.

I certainly understand the thing about financial things playing into the decision.
