I know somewhere I am hire-able but where?

Total Time 1700
Multi 75
Multi PIC: 22

I am former flight school owner, if you consider 3 airplanes a flight school. My business was located at Lakefront Airport in New Orleans. I spent 2+ years building up my clientele base and was doing okay financially if you don’t mind flying slow fixed gear planes and working 7 days a week. Hurricane Katrina came and took away my life of glamour, or put me out of my misery depending on how you look at it.

I have just received my MEI and have started teaching at a flight school in Central Texas. There is almost nothing I’d rather do less than climb into a Tomahawk with a 0 time pilot for pennies a day. I won’t even make enough to survive at the school once my schedule is filled which is happening very quickly. I am even contemplating going back to waiting tables. I am 10 hours short of the required hours to instruct in the schools twin. I am not sure it is worth investing in the 10 more hours at this school when I only need 30 more hours of Multi-PIC to send out some resumes.

The questions I have are:

Is there anyplace that would hire me to fly a twin with the time I have?

or
Can anyone recommend a place to time build 30 hours of multi for cheap (relatively)?

Is there a school that I could start teaching in twins in a short time?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I wouldn't think you'd have to keep instructing. Regionals are hiring as are most cargo places. Flight Express has ads for new classes starting likeonce a month, Airnet seems to run a class a month etc...

Quickest answer to your question is Network......Network....Network!!!!!!! Get your resumes out ASAP!!!!!!

Good Luck.

If you're not looking to go to a regional, a lot of 135 cargo companies are hiring. I work for Air Cargo Carriers flying a Shorts. The company is out of MKE, but we have a lot of bases, mostly in the Central US. You'll probably fly faster multis in your flight school, but the equipment and the environment are great. Nice place to stick around, take the relatively short upgrade and get a type rating. There is a class in right now, and I'm guessing a class will follow in the next couple months.

There are several posts here about the company. Hope you find what you need! Good luck!

Career Goals

Thanks all for the advice. I have actually been offered a start at flight express 6 months back or so but my business partner in New Orleans had promised big things to happen there, so I did not start the training. I am now just ready to get into a twin ASAP to build my time to move on up.

I had been presented some opportunities in the past I was unable to take because I was not qualified (insurable) in the plane. I think cargo would be the best option as it offers Multi engine PIC. I had been offered an SIC job locally in a Metro. But it had a year commitment, only promised 600 hrs of SIC a year and only paid $18k, so I am still searching.

Ameriflight is on my short list of options as Dallas is close by. I will look into Airnet as well. I am delivering a mooney this weekend but will be sending out resumes next week, will let you know how it goes.
Thanks
