Alternative to the Caravan?

I've seen a few Cessna Caravan clones in various magazines and I even remember the failed load master.

So, is there any real alternative to the Van?

Vulcanair, successor company to Partenavia was pursuing a caravan clone powered by a Walther engine. The advert releases had it looking identical to a C-208B.
Seems like the effort has stalled

I think the Twin Beech is the plane the 'van is
the alternative to. I'm sure goodgig was referring
to that. The 18 and the Otter were both fine
planes (just flew the Beech, myself), but give me
the Caravan any day. (no, I haven't flown it, I'm
extrapolating from my 206 experience). Time
marches on, engines don't, LoL.

What's the mission?

A lot depends on what you want to do with your Caravan alternate. If you need a real bushplane, then the Quest Air Kodiak is it.
http://questaircraft.com/ It was actually designed to replace the aging 206's and 207's that are being used in places like PNG and Africa.

I went to the Sandpoint ID factory in late 2005 for a demonstration to the public. The factory demo took off with about a 300ft ground roll at gross, if I recall, and then climbed like a raped ape.

Very interesting group of missionaries that conceived this bird. They also came up with a unique business plan, I think. I saw a press release last week that announced certification of their first production bird, which will be delived to the customer after Oshkosh.

I wish them success.

Pilatus PC-12. Way better than the sCaravan.

Meh, it was scary enough behind TWO 985's. One is just crazy talk!
I think that you're thinking of the beaver which had one R985. I think the original Otter had one 1340, which is way less reliable.
