Why would you be going missed at the DH when this is the reported weather

KRAP 290752Z AUTO 33024G30KT 1 1/4SM -SN BR OVC011 M03/M06 A3031 RMK AO2 PK WND 33036/0707 SLP294 P0000 T10331056 TSNO=

KRAP 290852Z AUTO 33020KT 1 1/2SM -SN OVC013 M03/M06 A3034 RMK AO2 PK WND 34031/0807 SLP303 P0000 60000 T10331061 53016 TSNO=

It's a little windy, but a mile & a half vis and OVC013 should be plenty for an ILS

Although it also says they crashed 10 miles from the airport, so who knows what they were trying to do... Something doesn't add up

I would agree, but perhaps it was a go-around rather than a missed approach? The winds gusted, maybe dipped the wing and it hit the ground while they were powering up to go around?

Either way, glad the pilot's safe and sound. Whew.

Just how "near" decision height did this missed approach start? Looks like he was off by close to 200 feet.
200' and 7 miles. I wish the FAA would quit moving the MAP around on the ILS. In all seriousness, I was told a different and more probable cause supposedly straight from the pilot. However, it was still second hand so I will leave the rest to the NTSB. Thank God he's OK.

Verdicts

This pilot is of great character and judgement in my 18 years knowing him.

I agree with leaving the judgement to the NTSB and not on this board.

Shut Up And Sit Down

Anyone that posts weather and questions what happened needs to sit down and shut up. Who knows what happened and I very well could be you next time we are human.

Be thankful he got to go home to his family. And just mabe he did a good job of keeping in the shape he did??? You think> Moretiss mabe when you get some time u might just shut up!!!!!!

Was there a PFT flying?

Before I go off on 80for80, this. I dispise the whole PFT thing and think it is morally wrong.

But,

WTF does that (your question) have anything to do with anything? Even if it was a PFT flying, where was the (non?) PFT captain?

Go back to the regionals forum and bash on Mesa you tool.

I think anyone that doesn't look at an accident and ask questions about what happened and why it happened is asking to be the next person to repeat that accident.

If you don't mind waiting the 6 months to a year for the NTSB to issue a probable cause then go for it, but I would rather learn from someone's mistake now and limit my risks now. As you said, "It very well could be you next time" I personally don't want it to me, so I'm going to ask the questions I need to to prevent that.

"One who asks a question is a fool for five minutes, one who does not ask a question remains a fool forever."

Moretiss ask your questions and try to learn from them, there is a lot of info on these boards.

Don't ever "sit down and shut up"!!

These boards are rumors, not facts, you want the facts you will have to speak to the Capt.

Glad he made it out!

Later.;)

I can second all of this. I haven't known him as long, but he has been at this for some time and knows what he is doing at least in my experience.

CitationCapt, have you talked to him at all? I tried his cell and it goes straight to voice mail which is full.
