If you are represented by alpa, the BOD will vote on changes in assessing your dues. What they want to do is make your 401k pre-tax money now counted for dues.

Check with your reps to find out all the info.

This vote will be at the next BOD meeting.

This is slightly old news, but either way, there is a big difference between changing the actual dues rate and including the money destined for your 401k in the equation.

Any airline that had multiple forms of retirement savings already pays dues on their 401k money. This is just changing it so everybody does.

That said, I would bet a dues percentage hike isn't too far behind.

Negotiate huge pay and work rule cuts to "save your profession" and then raise your dues because it caused their coffers to be short. Sounds about right. Democratic supporters in leadership will make sure that your money supply, not theirs, is dwindled. Good times ahead.

Sounds typical for those who do NOTHING steal more money from those of us who do. Raise the retirement to 65, so we can pay them longer. I say vote out this trash and keep the dues ourselves!

There are a lot of thread starters who seem to take the National Enquirer approach to article titles. You don't need a sensational title to get your point across. In this case, I'm sympathetic to your cause but your misleading title pisses me off.

WTF?! This does not make me all warm and fuzzy inside for my union. $%$#!

Translation: I sh*t where I eat...

How much are the MEC's and National going to "suggest" the line pilots give up this time around when management comes with their hands out? You know....to save the profession?

Be sure to raise the taxes though. That will inspire the troops.

Seems to me that if they were doing a good job they wouldn't need to tap retirement accounts or raise percentage rates. If they were doing a good job they wouldn't have lost business and all of the raises that they were helping negotiate for their pilots would have turned to higher dues for ALPA. Seems like a sinking ship.

Guess everyone should thank the US Air guys who voted themselves out of ALPA for this one.

Their right, of course. And good for them for taking a stand. (I guess)

However, it sets a dangerous precedent. If more pilot groups opt out, and the solution is to squeeze the remaining pilots for more cash, they'll only accelerate the trend.

Unions are like the government. They will always ask you to live with less as long as they don't have to.

If everybody calls their status reps about this increase instead of just complaining about it on flightinfo, it probably won't get passed when it comes up to a vote at the BOD. Call your reps and voice your concerns.

Nice try, but I think that CEO's and executives fit this description much better. And we know which party of our government gives them this power.

Just like the age 65 deal.

If I will be paying more dues next month than I do now then it is a dues increase. Regardless of how they choose to make the assessment it is a dues increase.

Why did the BOD vote to give the national officers a raise. Why did the national officers accept it? Hmm then turn around and look for more income from dues.

ALPA national employess/representation ought to take pay cuts and reduce the overall budget.

Goat

Already happened. Lots of staff have lost their jobs also.

Just like the age 65 deal.

That's a perfect example, actually. The majority of ALPA members didn't participate in that process at all. When an on-line poll was created that allowed every single member the ability to vote on that policy, the majority didn't even bother to spend the 5 minutes to log in and vote. When you don't participate, you're giving the leadership the ability to do whatever the hell they want. Don't allow the same to happen this time. Get your fellow members to participate in democracy.
