If Colgan was an ALPA carrier would it be your position that DW or JP should not have signed their contract?

If Colgan were ALPA prior to Pinnacle's acquisition of them and they then entered into financially unjustified contract concessions intended solely to promote the transfer of flying from the Pinnacle certificate to the Colgan certificate you bet I would fight that with every ounce of my being. I would also expect my national union to take an equal amount of disdain of this cowardly act.

The demise of CCAir lies solely in the lap of Orstein. I cannot believe that there are those who blame their Union.

I still think your facts are way off.

His facts are just that: facts! ALPA's Admin manual has very specific requirements that must be met before concessionary bargaining can be entered into by an MEC. As DoinTime states, this is to prevent a pilot group from being forced into concessions under duress, which is exactly what JO did to the CCAir pilots. In defiance of ALPA's bargaining policy, the CCAir MEC signed a concessionary TA when JO had never presented any evidence that concessions were necessary. One of the requirements to engage in concessionary bargaining within ALPA is to have received proof of financial duress by the airline. Without that proof, CCAir's MEC was out of line in negotiating concessions. Duane had no choice but to refuse signing that TA, and he was absolutely right. That TA never should have been negotiated in the first place.

Is Kernan still at Piedmont?

No matter what people say about him, I always thought he was always a straight shooter, and a decent guy...

Yes and agreed.

He was definitely a nice guy, and I always thought that he was doing things for the right reasons, but his reputation got damaged because of his associations with some of the more militant anti-mainline DCI reps. He tried a run for VP-Admin in '06 and got absolutely no traction.

I used to pass gas for CCAir in CLT in the early '90s. Those guys (and a few gals) were great... Treated me really well like I was one of the bunch. On a hot day they always seemed to have a cold soda laying around for an overheated fueler.
