ALPA and SWA

Here's a question that came up a few days ago.

SWA stated that they like leadership qualitys. Would you advise someone that is in a MEC Rep for his/her current 121 pilot group and chairman of other committee's to put that info on a SWA app?

Would SWA care? or would they freak out?

No flaming, just a question.

I would keep that info to myself if I were you. Way too much potential for a negative impact. I wouldn't even mention it during an interview.

I think that it could do a lot more harm than good by bringing it up. But that's just my opinion... I could be wrong.

Excellent question. Here is my perspective.

As an interviewer I would wear my SWAPA pin on my tie. I always show my solidarity for the line pilots...BUT...

the decision commitee is comprised entirely of management. I really don't think they wear their pins during their meetings when they decide on who to hire.

I would say its a slam dunk. Do not say anything about it.

I have always had a fear of the unknown.

I disagree. Go in there tell them exactly how proud you are to be a union rep. Tell them that the contract is your bible and that you would never do anything to violate it. Sorry, couldn't resist!

What does MEC stand for?

MEC

MEC = Master Executive Council. Its the line pilots who are voted to represent the carrier's union pilots to ALPA. They are the leaders of the pilot's union at that carrier.
