ALPA and REGIONAL AIRLINES

ALPA representing "SO Called Regional Airlines" (what region - the planet earth??) - they are serving two masters - the Majors who are trying to scope the Regionals out - and the Regionals that are trying to grow and increse their pay? But are representing both groups ??? This is a conflict in interest in my opinion. Hell X-Jet has only has one MEC ? But two pilot groups that are in some cases negotiating on differenct sides of the fence - which one get the better representation - ??? The guys that pay more dues? --K.B.

Bob, I think the nicest thing that can be said about that situation is that it is an "opportunity missed."

ALPA certainly could have taken a different tack from day one. Instead of trying to fight the future of aviation, they could have embraced it, and perhaps in doing so been able to exert more influence over the process.

Perhaps they didn't see the "regional jet" as the future of aviation, but I don't buy that. In fact, I could say that it was for precisely that reason, that the smaller jets would create a competitive advantage over turboprops AND some wide bodies, that ALPA tried to keep their distance from the RJ, circling the wagons instead of making a treaty.

Does it seem like a conflict of interest? To me, yes. What will be the outcome? Your guess is probably as good as mine.

It's is all about the Votes. The major airline pilots have more votes than the regional. But does that mean you discard the minority, or do you find away to accomondate both parties.

Take the American Disabilities Act. Wheelchair ramps and steps accomondate both groups, without hurting the other.

The Big Q. Are the regionals going to fend up and get their game on? Stop sport-bitchin' and activate!
