ALL ATPS career pilot program

My Grandma passed away last week and left my Mom and Dad some money. The thing is, my Dad wants to send me to a good part 141 school, and I was thinking about All ATPS at RAL. Im 18 almost done with high school (home school, teachers are just babie sitters now) and have about 220 hours, PPL IR. Would that be they way to go? How many hours of multi do the MEI's get a year? Are there anyother good schools in CA that you can get gobs of multi time at?

Your 18 do yourself a huge favor in life. Get yourself a college education. At this point in your life it should be a high priority. Don't stop flying. There are lots of great 4-year schools where you can fly too. You'll be in a much strong position when your 22 if you've got that education. When you’re done you'll be an instructor with 1500 to 2k hours. Perfect for your next step; cargo or regional airlines. Besides if I read your post correctly your were home schooled. A 4-year school should be a definite must at this point. Good luck.

I think ATP is part 61. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

I would say that at 220 hours and already having your instrument, a 141 school would be a waste of your money. Get your commercial at an FBO and then go to ATP for the CFI ratings.

And I second what JetBlast2000 said about getting your degree. If you are good at self study, look into Riddle's DL program.

1. Enroll in the best College you can. Get a Bachelors Degree in a field that interests you that is outside aviation. Diversify, Diversify, Diversify.

2. Since you have your PPL and IR, and 220 Hours, I would investigate the situation at the local airport(s) near your College. Get your Commerical, MEL and Instructors ratings. You may be able to work part time at an FBO, and get discounts on rental and instruction. Or you may be able to find some independent instructors that own their own aircraft and are building time. I was able to get my MEL this way by paying for the gas plus $20 an hour for the instruction.

3. If you can afford it, you can go the All ATP route during your summer time off between semesters - but most cannot afford that.

Get a Four Year Degree.

Just this...

Diversity is good, considering your airline career is only as good as your ability to maintan a 1st Class medical. At 18 you have a few years to go [ see FAR 61.153(a) ] before you can be viable for the ATP cert. My advice to you is to get your 4 year degree > CFI/I and get busy instructing. Multi time is always interesting...I personally consider single pilot IFR experience as far more significant than a few hundred hours in a low performance twin. As for ATP...I know they are a sponsor...but their claims are disingenuious at best...unless of course they are willing to give you a written offer of employemnt as an MEI at the end of your training for at least 1000 hours of dual given experience.

I'm doing the ATP career pilot course now and I think it's great! If you decide to ever train there, I highly recommend it. But listen to these other guys--you really need the 4-year degree to land that airline job.

I will get my 4 year no question, but im not the school type so I think I will do the online thing. My old CFI is going to Uath state and doing the online thing and he says he likes it, and I think thats what im going to do. I would like to get all my ratings done ASAP, and start build the hours. At my local FBO they have told me that when I get my CFI I will have a job there. So finding a CFI job right now or in a few months is not a problem. But there is no question I will have my 4 year. And also my Dad might get a twin comanche or something in that price range (low 100,000's). But I have checked on insurance and there is no way I can get It now. So I think I will go to All ATPS and get the ratings, and as im CFI'ing I can do the school. But if ATP will hire me as a MEI there when Im done (if i go) I will stay there for about 6 months. Then come back home. Rent is free at home!

Also is there a reg that you cant fly Part 135 cargo under 21?
I was thinking Good Old Ameriflight. (if i have the mins befor im 21 but I dont think I will be there untill after 21)
