Alaska's Seattle "Road-Show"

Interested to hear from anyone attending the Seattle ALPA Road-Show today.

Do you feel the union will offer to take a small pay cut in exchange for a contract extention, or will this be a knock-down, drag-out fight to the end with it all being taken away anyway when contract renewal goes to binding arbitration???

I didn't go to the roadshow, but from what I have learned, it is way too early to tell right now. They have agreed to talk with the company and hear them out, but there is nothing forcing the pilots to reach any sort of agreement. I think it is quite likely that there won't be anything presented to the membership to be voted on, but I may be wrong. I can see a wage freeze with a contract extension passing, but it certainly seems that a pay cut won't get off the ground. At least I hope not.

So this is begining to sound like those that are in the pool like Rhino and FL510 and those of us waiting on the "to call" list for interviews are going to be sitting around for quite a bit longer.....

That blows. I was begining to get a bit hopeful when Alaska turned a profit last quarter without government subsidies. I do understand the position of the current pilots, though. Why give up something when there appears to be no justification, and besides, it protects the new hires when they do get on the property.

Oh, well.

Who knows what it means, but food for thought. Spoke with a friend of mine that was hired by Alaska earlier in the year and put in the "POOL". He received a letter last week from the HR department saying to expect an EARLY 04 class. Just thought I would add to the confusion.

I'm sure all the poolies received the same letter, and it actually said "Optimistically, a new hire class will not occur until the beginning of 2004."

Unfortunately that is a lot different than "expect an early 04 class"

Let's hope they need a few of us sooner rather than later.
