Apparently Alaska has a new interview process that involves some sort of computerized testing and a second stage interview, if you make it that far, with the chief pilot and V.P. of flt ops. Might any of you second floor guys know what the stage interview is all about?

Can anyone confirm first-hand that the Alaska sim is dead?
I've heard all the rumors:
> "it's all gone because the MD-80 sim is gone(or going away)"
> "no sim for current pt. 121 pilots"
> "no sim for current jet pilots
> "sim eval is on a case-by-case basis"

Thanks for your help.
It's crunch time!

I talked with the LA chief and he told me the personality test is about 150 questions. I think he said it was the Minnesota something test. It is basically the same one that many law enforcement agencies use, as well as others. It has questions like "do you believe in aliens?, Do you believe in ???? How do you feel about this type of person??? etc, etc.
As far as the sim it is on a case-by-case basis. He could not give me firm numbers but low total time or low PIC turbine time could require a sim ride. He made the statement that sim rides are usually not a good indicator because people just go out and buy a few hours in the sim and prep for it.
So I don't expect many people to have to do the sim. If you are called for a interview ask them at that time if you are going to have to do the sim ride. They told me I did not so it was one thing less I had to worry about. They told two of my classmates that they would so they had time to go out an prep for it.

Good luck!

This personality test was implemented in an attempt to hire pilots that are not on an extreme. In other words, pilots that won't cause problems like being union activists.

Farging bastidge troublemakers!

Back in Kollege I used to write those types of tests for my Psch Prof. He was contracted to produce them for businesses...

These types of tests are produced to determine and identify certain behavioral tendencies.

They are (among others):

Do you have some level of self esteem?
How do you take direction from others?
Do you have leadership qualities?
Can you give constructive critisism?
Can/do you build friendships/teams?

As long as you are consistant in answering (positively) those banks of questions that are looking for a particlular behavioral tendency, you'll do fine. If you are all over the map, and inconsistant you'll throw up a red flag. Honesty is the key, since you don't have to think very hard about answering the question.

Good luck!

Z Pilot,

Good luck next week. Could you please provide an update here for the rest of us waiting for the phone call?

Thanks,

Everyone relax. I have several friends that I grew up with and are now law enforcement officers.(local and federal) If these nutjobs passed the test, I'm sure anyone who passed the ATP ride will do fine!;)

Z Pilot,

Yes, that was me at LAS a couple weeks ago. Congrats on getting an interview. It's nice to see that some of us from that group are being called.

In 2000 I interviewed with DL/AS/AA with DL and AA giving some type of MMPI. I was offered a position at DL that day and told to come back and do the physical. Well 2 weeks later I get a "thanks, but no thanks" letter" in the mail. Not sure what the deal was but was informed I didn't pass the MMPI.

Took a very similar test at AA later on and was offered a class date with them with now problems but took the AS offer.
Anyway, the moral of the story in my opinion is it does'nt mean squat*^&(^
If you get the interview just answer each and every question with 100% honesty, thats what they are looking for.
The sim ride was only being given to low time or low PIC folks. Not sure what the game plan is for now but will dig for the dirt.
