It could potentially reduce soft time. Right now it takes 2 crews to staff 1 Austin round trip with about 2 hours of soft time for the whole trip. The new rules would allow 1 crew to easily staff the round trip with no soft time. Add up the amount of soft time that the new rules eliminate and you reduce the number of pilots by that number. I don't believe that it is a very bid number.

I'm not sure if I understand your reasoning, or I'm looking at different trips than you. For May, most of the AUS flying is embedded in a multi-day trip with limited soft time. Most Midcons are embedded in multi-day trips.

The big question mark will be how much the new FTDT rules will affect system wide soft time.

Also, and I'm just speculating, but if your entire zone during reserve is considered duty, then we'll need more reserves. You'll no longer be able to sit reserve for 15 hours when your zone touches WOCL.
