Was updating my Alaska app today and when I went to log on, I got a message that said: "You have been submitted to this position internally and will be notified when neccessary. " What does that mean?

Interesting. When I went to update mine it said "The following jobs have conceptually matched your resume" and below it "No Jobs Found". I think I like yours better... When I originally filled it out last fall it was for "Future Pilot Hiring" and rec'd an e-mail saying my app had been rec'd, etc.

In addition, the referral section on mine has defaulted to "A friend (not an AK airlines employee) referred me." I actually have a couple people inside pulling for me, but it won't let me change it. Any comments/info from the Alaska guys who are so helpful on here? Should I have my friends walking in hard copies, or rely just on the on-line app? I'm just hoping I didn't miss the boat on something here...

Also, as an E120 check airman with @ 1000 T-PIC, do I stand I chance when things start up? In additions to the LOR's, should I also hit a job fair? Is jet PIC becoming necessary?

Okay, sorry--no more questions for tonight. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Take care,
D

Mine also said the same thing. I was curious, you said you have someone pulling for you on the inside. What does that mean exactly? The reason I ask is, a few months ago, my friends tried to submit a letter of rec and resume, but the chief pilots at both locations (LAX, SEA) said they could not accept them and send them forward because they were not hiring. Have you friends actually been able to submit a resume and letter for you? Thanks for the info.

Tytl,

I just meant that I have several friends who work at Alaska and are trying to help me get on. They walked stuff in for me before this new hiring system, but heard the same thing as your friend when they tried to do it recently. Sounds like we're in the same boat.

I'm hopefully just worrying unnecessarily, but I just don't want to miss any opportunity as Alaska is the only major I've ever wanted to work for. Best of luck to you and all the rest.

Window's closed

The base chief pilot's were the one's who accepted the LOR's, silver bullets, wooden stakes - what ever you want to call them. Right now they are not allowed to accept anything - the window is closed and no paper work is being accepeted.
I have no idea why Alaska started up this internet application process when they have no intentions to hire. Unfortunately, I think they fired it up just to work the bugs out - so it will be bug free and ready to roll when they "really" want to use it.

2004 is shapping up to be an interesting year. There are close to 40 SEA based F/O's who are still active duty and will not be back any time soon. This will leave the company pretty short of pilots going into the summer schedule.

ANC is going to loose three 200's in 2004, which is 33% of the ANC fleet. Could a base reduction be on the horizon? Many rumors about a seperate 4/7/9 and someday 3 (with cargo door) base in ANC.

Retirements loom large in the near future. If there are no new hires in 04, then the flood gates will have to open in 05 to keep up.

Just keep standing by to stand by.

To add to the Alaska Rumorville, those 20 SEA based F/Os will start coming back to work in August when the reserve units are purported to come off of Active Duty orders (deactivate).

Anyone have a clue of how large the Alaska pilot pool is?

The word I get is around 30.

I also will add that the rumor of -300s for ANC (as reported by AK737FO) is fairly strong...along with what he said about the other 737 variants in ANC. So, I would think (just my opinion), that the ANC base will eventually be made up of pilots trained on all the 737s in the fleet...once the -200s are gone and replaced by -300s. This (again, my opinion only) could mean an eventual increase in the size of the ANC base.

Just adding a little flavor to the rumor da jour. ;)

I also believe there will be significant hiring in 2005.

Delville,

Regret to say that I had similar problems too. When I went back to edit my application the referral question had defaulted to "a friend" instead of my Alaska pilot buddy and the affirmative action survey defaulted to showing me as a Native American!

Trying to contact Alaska to see if I can correct this matter-makes you wish for the good old fashion paper application.

Best of luck, I'll certainly need it.

waiting, waiting, waiting...

Yup...
"The Bid" was suppose to come out yesterday, still nothing.
A bit of tension up here to see how it all shakes out. I'm afraid that there will be a few SEA guys bid up and force a couple of ANC F/O's on the bottom of the list out. Unfortunate, as all the guys / gals up here want to be here, but that is what seniority is all about.

I gotta tel ya, there's a growing list of guys in SEA that want to be there.

...still waiting.

original thread question was....

When reviewing my online "app" today, there was a block that said something like "Tasks needing attention". I clicked on it and a 19 questionnaire came up. But after about 11 of 19, I got a message that said something to the effect of "thank you for completing the questionnaire". I tired to get back the the starting point, but no "task" box.
Anyone else experience something similar?

I just updated and didn't get that questionnaire. Where was it located? I am getting the default "website" referral. When I pull up the job listing "future pilot hiring" and I am logged in, it says that I have already applied for the job. BUT, when I look under "My Jobs" it says that I have not applied for any. Is there anyone we can contact to make sure we are in the system correctly. I know it might not matter now, but if they start looking to see who has been in longest and updating it might be a deal. Thanks to Mach, AK737FO and everyone else there for keeping us up to date.

An update--I sent an email to AS web support via the website and they changed my referral to "an Alaska employee." They were real quick & helpful. Best of luck to all.

Take care,
D

Dignan,

What email address did you use. Thanks for the update.

Ted,

I just went to the "contact us" page and hit the link that said "alaskaair.com web support." They got back to me within a day. Good luck and fly safe.

Thanks Dig,

I did the same and didn't hear back from them, but it looks like it has been squared away. Thanks again.
