The latest CAL rumor is that we have decided on the iPad to eventually replace our flight bags. It is being rumored that the 737 fleet will be the first to receive theirs starting in August. As far as the 737 goes, is there some sort of bracket on the window chart holder to hold the iPad to make view easier? Second, what kind of restrictions have been put on personal use?

Thanks

I think the bracket is the main thing holding us back from using the iPad below 10,000' and for using it as our primary navigation source. Once we figure out the bracket issue, we'll probably start a trial using the Jepp ap. Other than obvious restrictions on personal use, we have been warned that big brother might be watching our usage. Some pilots even think they can tell what apps are used and when. The only thing I've gotten the company to comfirm is that they know which apps we have, but not their usage. USA Today did an article on Alaska's iPad use:

"What they won't do: Play Angry Birds, watch movies or do e-mail. The pilot's iPad is not connected to the Internet — even though Alaska has Wi-Fi on the planes, says Kleiger. 'That's against company policy. And, besides, we're professionals.'"

Sure wouldn't mind being able to get some nexrad updates, though.
